A couple of years ago I recall that Medicabank Private wrote to us to say that they were introducing a surcharge on the monthly health insurance instalment when paid by c'card. The sums at the time made me switch to a direct debit from our bank account.

Last month while looking at there website I noticed that they no longer referred to a surcharge on credit card payments.

I switched the payment arrangement back to the credit card and now earn KrisFlyer miles on each monthly payment. That's about 3.600 miles per annum for a family with hospital and extras cover.

I'm still not excited about the extra miles when the rebate starts to cut out but I'll take them. Might make me feel healthier travelling.

I have been paying MBP with CC for a couple of months now as well, because of the low earning NAB MC I only get 3360 QF miles for a couple instead of 5040 when they still accepted AMEX

I have always paid my MBP by CC and have never noticed a surcharge? Agree it was better when they accepted Amex but 1/$ is still ok.

I agree. You must have confused non-acceptance of Amex. I've been paying visa/MC for months with no surcharge.

We've been with Medibank Private since 2000. I'm talking a change in the past 11 years.

Years ago I got a discount for paying by Direct Debit, but they took that away.....

Also sounds familiar. Maybe they do that from time to time to encourage people to change and then slowly remove it in order to rely on consumer lag.

Re: Medibank Private Direct Debit to C'card no longer surcharge

Never had a surcharge for payment via various credit cards, even for the short time they took Amex.

I did give them the boot for HCF and 10K MR in December 2010 (Had been a member of Medibank Private since 1982) - turned out to be a good thing since HCF provide a far better cover at similar rates.

I have paid by direct debit with MC for 6 years and never had to pay a surcharge.
