Hi
My son & daughter [20 & 13yrs]will be flying LHR-MEL arriving at 2205. The flight from Mel to home is not until 0845 the next morning so they will need an airport hotel. Any recommendations & do they all have a shuttle service?
thanks

Depends on your budget, as there are a range of hotels available in the airport grounds (Hilton, Holiday Inn at pricey end at Formula 1 at lower end) and motels not too far away that have shuttles - for these motels best bet is to find out is to go to wotif.com and do a search on Melbourne, and narrow this down to airport .... link here. Although you do need to hover mouse over price to see if transfers available, avoid any that don't and also avoid anythat indicate Keilor, Taylors Lakes, Rupertswood, Reservoir ! They are not that close to the airport.

The most convenient, and my preference would be the Hilton, it doesn't have a shuttle service though :p ...... but it sits atop the carpark, literally across the road/footbridge from the terminal so it doesn't need one.

The 3 closest are Hilton, Holiday Inn and Forumla 1 (and this is also the price order as well). Hilton is directly connected to the airport terminal via a walkway. Holiday Inn is a short walk through the carpark and across the road, and Formula 1 is a bit more of a walk again.

Airport hotels - Melbourne Airport

Hilton is probably the safest option for them at that time of night.

Although I did notice on Friday that the Hilton does have a small shuttle bus parked out the front. Not sure what it's used for. The Hilton is close enough that I've walked across to the terminal for meals in the eateries and breakfast in the QP.

Richard.

Maybe it is a shuttle for the other hotels in the CBD - South Wharf and on the Park?

Thank you all for the suggestions - most helpful. Taking everything into account the Hilton is the best value - Mantra was cheaper but it would cost $24 for the shuttle bus & Hilton only $20 more than Holiday Inn. Being right next to the terminal should almost ensure they manage to get to the flight in time:)
cheers

The Mantra is in the same building as United Airport Parking. They do have a free shuttle bus to and from the Airport/Hotel. The Mantra is also very new.

That said, the Hilton there is quite nice, and there are some good rates available if you dig around (And the 100m walk is easier).

hazel,

Good choice.

If the price is right then the Hilton is certainly the pick of them.
