Hi,

I am currently searching for business class flights from Melbourne to Berlin in October.
When I search CX flights MEL-Berlin I can only find ones that connect through LHR and cost 21k AUD
When I search MEL-FRA a return ticket in J costs 6900AUD.

Since I prefer a connection through FRA anyway, I thought booking a separate return flight FRA-BER.

I'm now wondering whether my luggage will be checked through from MEL to BER or do I need to collect it in FRA and check in for the domestic flight?
Does the airline I chose for the domestic flight make a difference to the process (ie oneworld vs non-oneworld)?

Thanks, Christian

It perhaps EK MEL-DXB-FRA booked on a QF Ticket? One stop, no luggage issues.

I booked a flight MEL-HKG-FRA-TXL on CX J and AB Y for $7400.

EY or QR is slightly cheaper but I wanted to stopover in HKG.

Re: Interline baggage - I wondered about the same process - might be easier to refer you to my post on FlyerTalk:

I'll report back when I have completed my trip.

As they are both *O airlines, interlining should be a given.

Just returned and wanted to report back.

Despite the CX and AB sectors on separate e-tickets, check in simply tagged baggage to the final destination without asking!

Small miracle to see my bag on the carousels in MEL after near 30hr journey!

Transiting thru FRA is another story...

I believe the rumour is into Europe ex-Perth, rather than via Dubai
