Hey Guys! hows everyone? so planning to take the boyfriend and mother to Vietnam via KLIA on Air asia, we usually go direct via Vietnam Airlines but the flights are 1770 return, price not really worth it to be honest, Air Asia are offering 2900 return for all 3, anyone flew with Air asia already? how are they and how are their hot seats? planning to sit in row 7! thanks guys!

The general consensus is they are 'not too bad' which is hardly glowing enthusiasm. I've flown on them on an Asian short sector and decided never to bother with them again. Nothing went wrong, I just felt like I was sitting in the midst of a $2 shop. It just had a cheap and nasty feel about it, black seats with fire engine red trim doesn't help that. I do not like that feeling. Are you sure $2900 is the final checkout price? You'll be amazed how expensive they get and how quickly once you start adding in those fancy extras like checked in luggage and seat selection.

My experience is that their bottom bucket fares aren't that cheap once you finalize the sale and offer zero flexibiity. Be careful of that because if you have to change a date or flight it will cost you a mint in fare differences and charges. I was asked to pay almost 70% of the original cost of my fare to change the flight date. I ended up forfeiting the return fare and flying a full service airline instead vowing never again to fly air Asia.

Now with regards to seat selection. To be honest, unless you are getting exit row seats or, bulkhead absolutely must sit altogether I wouldn't pay for seat selection. One row in economy is pretty much the same as another unless you are scoring a 'best seat' with your money it's just another way for the airline to increase your fare.

My advice is fly them if you must. I would also be checking out other airlines though. Be very careful of their fare rules because your cheap fare can get very expensive very quickly if you need a change of any kind. Don't expect much service on the ground or in the air and your expectations will be met. Do take your own pillow and blanket because they will charge you a stupid amount of money to provide one. Take snacks too in case the insight offering is inedible. Personally I pay extra for full service so I'm allowed to have some expectation of service onboard.

flew them once from SGN to KL - not too bad because it was a 45 min flight

woeful seat pitch though - not sure about flying long sectors with them unless you are in their "business class". Which might be a good idea - just try a lottery upgrade via Optiontown

Very true about the seat pitch, they make Y in Australia look like business class. It's the only time in my life I prayed for the person in front not to recline. I was certain that seatback was going to hit my face.

yeah 2990, is the final price with hot seats, food and 30kg of luggage! will reconsider and think of other airlines!! thanks guys!
