Hi all,

Finally starting to digest the copious amount of info associated with reward flight bookings!

One question that I haven't found a definitive answer to- we are looking at booking a flight from mel to Europe late next year. Other than mel to lhr flying qf are there any other options when booking a one world reward ticket?

If not, are the points listed in the one world points chart from South pacific to Europe for this one flight alone?
I understand I can book segments separately but looking to get best bang for buck from points.

Thanks in advance

AA don't do oneworld round the world awards anymore. For point to point award south west pacific to Europe There are heaps of options. For the basic points price you have QF via Dubai on the same flight number. You can also choose Malaysian, Cathay ir Japan Airlines, or QF to Sydney then Ba. You can also.do.combos eg. QF to Bangkok then Ba etc. For the price of two awards you can travel via the middle east on either Qatar or partner airline Etihad. A few options there; not an exhaustive list.

Qatar would be the same as CX, mH etc only one award as it is oneworld. Agree there are many possibilities. In addition to the carriers that fly to Australia (mentioned) others can be picked up in Asia (eg Finnair).

Despite being oneworld you still can't transit via middle east as one award on Qatar; routing rules only allow transit via Asia 1 or Asia 2. QF is the only exception as single flight number is direct . I lobbied AA to change when Qatar joined but no luck.

Ok wow. Just as much as there are hidden gems, there are also hidden nasties.

Many thanks for your insight. So you can only fly qf to Europe via Dubai if it is a single flight number- it appears that this would only include Mel to lrh? I'm not a Qantas fanatic but wouldn't mind my first flight in J or F to be a qf.

As a side note, after reading the recent rule changes, I'm assuming that all stop overs are off the cards? Therefore no stopover in Dubai (for more than 24 hours) and all intra-Europe flights to be booked seperately?

Any time you want a stopover greater than 24 hours it's separate awards.
