Hi All,

Need your assistance, planning on going to LGK(Langkawi) from MEL on Nov 21st to Nov26 (or 27th) via the longest possible route in true AFF fashion only on Oneworld airlines with a QFF points/SC's earning compatible fare class.
Stopovers are ok as long as they don't exceed a day max.
Now the hard part is I don't want to spend over $1400 per person, this is my budget and can't deviate from it much as this is just a 'quick' getaway.

I have found the following routing so far, MEL-HKG-KUL-HKG-MEL on CX Y for ~$1200 (points earning fare class) and MH Y KUL-LGK-KUL for ~$92AU so in total slightly under $1300 earning 120SC's.

So would be interesting to hear of any weird and wonderful routings other than the one I have already thought of above (even where there are specials in premium economy/business via other airports).

Thanks!!

If your chasing SCs etc, your probably better of going to SIN via the BR, getting a 3K plus pack and then grabbing MH J on the domestic leg, should be under 1K (probably closer to $900) return and net 160SC. If your a regular SIN visitor look at nesting the return and grabbing a PE back, around $1100 return ex SIN with QF.

Look at staying a night in KUL, BRG with SPG is easy with Aloft or LM KUL, making for an easy 2K of star points for around $80-90 a night for the room

MEL-DRW on JQ for $191 (with a Plus bundle)
overnight stopover
DRW-KUL-LGK-KUL-DRW on MH (V class) for $753.79
DRW-MEL on QF for $248

Sorry for not replying last night, I went ahead and booked my original thought of MEL-HKG-KUL-HKG-SYD as the fare buckets were filling up quickly for the return legs (not sure if there is a holiday or event on in Asia around 30th Nov?) so I had to bite the bullet and book it.
I did however snag KUL-LGK-KUL on MH Business Promo, for around A$200 return, earning 80 SC's.

For my KUL stopovers (1 day on the way there 1 on way back) I've chosen Westin got a really good rate (for a westin) ~$149 a night.

Thank you for your suggestions however, Markis I've never used the BRG on SPG have you had much success with it before?

I have never had a KUL stay rejected and have two consecutive nights later this month that will provide a nice 12K haul, enjoy LGK!

Wow! That's a good little status run right there at $2.5/SC.

Are there any other little MH J promo tricks that are this good?

mrpooky.

I buy MAA-KUL-BNE return business for around A$2300. Only works if u frequently visit Chennai/India as I do.
I usually go every 10-12 weeks for 2-3 days, with another 4-5 days in SG/KL or somewhere else in Asia playing golf and generally not working very hard:cool:

All domestic short haul MH flights in J can be bought for $100 each way during what appear to be regular sales. Mix & match as you please. Most flights appear to use the same plane for immediate turnarounds so quite handy and convenient for status runs.

There is a minimum stay for the "family promo" fares of three days now, making it hard to do same day!

As I am arriving at KLIA at 1:30am, the hotel charges 50% surcharge for airport pickup 00:00-06:00, making it around $110AU for a Camry pickup, a bit excessive I think.
Would you recommend Taxi at that time and if so how much approx KLIA to KL city?
