MH 2 for 1

I think there must be a lot of people too nervous to ever consider flying MH. I know my parents have ruled it out completely even though the prices and schedules would suit them quite well.

Yes. A bit sad as my limited experience with MH has been very good.

2 for 1 deals like this are a sign of trouble with the banks, especially considering past problems.

It would be interesting to see % of Malay nationals who chose MH versus other carriers.

Thanks for the heads up! Do you mind sharing the dates you looked at? We’re looking at Paris (Via LHR is fine) in Sept/Oct.

The dates I quoted for above were for dates much closer in, maybe May. It was last night and I can't remember that far back! You have to roll the calendar around a bit to find the cheap dates.

I found 10 Sept and 3 Nov for NZD10875.8 TOTAL for both passengers return. In between the return leg was up to 8 grand. NZD2718 pp per leg which for that distance is amazing. Class Z both ways.
Remember the prices you're looking at when you go through are already for 2 passengers so don't be put off.

Fears about safety are IMO unfounded.

I've flown them quite extensively and they are pretty good. The J-class product on the A330s is good. The on-board service is fine. Lounges in KUL have been renovated.

My biggest gripe is the lack of alcohol on international flights of less than 3 hours, even in J-class. Having a nice lunch or dinner on-board is a bit odd without a glass of wine.

I've flown them a few times recently in J long haul and some short trips in J as well as one in Y and have no issue with them, my reasoning is that if it's going to happen, it will, regardless of the airline. They can't be blamed for the Ukrainian incident imo, that was just bad luck.

The German Wings, and the Silk Air type accidents are much more of a worry. Technical failure can happen to any aircraft, deliberate pilot action is a whole different thing.
Hopefully the truth will come out as to what really happened MH370.

I was wary of flying Air Asia given some of there issues here of recent, had some flights recently and I'd happily fly them again, also Laos Airlines, they lost a plane into the Mekong a while back, but I'm still happy to fly them.

But then again, I flew CAAC (china airlines always crash) quite a few times in the eighties, so maybe I'm a fatalist or perhaps I have a death wish! :) (said very much tongue in cheek)

Do both passengers earn the full miles or are the rules different for the companion?

I never looked at the T&C as I'm not booking. But based on price alone I would still fly that. I guess if status credits are important you'll need to check with the chart of the programme you're accruing towards.

Thank you so much for the info. It’s a great deal

How is seat comfort or service related to safety?

I don't think the airline has done enough to show they have done a '180' on their attitude towards safety.

After MH17 they said airlines like themselves shouldn't have to worry about safety and should be able to focus on food and seat comfort. Exactly what you have honed in on - the on board product.

Ignoring intelligence on safety (routes to fly), dragging victims of MH17 through the courts to delay paying compensation, refusing to pay for the continued search of MH370. None of these show a commitment to find answers, to take responsibility, or to assure the public they will try and prevent these things happening again.
