I just noticed on my BP for QF52 SIN-BNE a couple of weeks ago (I'm quick!) that my middle name appears on it, in lower case, immediately under the service information line (or I guess as part of the service info field) i.e. the bit that says FF PLATINUM etc.

I've never noticed this before. Is this perhaps a new thing, or just a SIN thing, and what might its purpose be? Some sort of extra 'security/identity' parameter? My middle name wasn't in the res, but obviously the checkin person sees my passport.

Has anyone noticed the same, or have any idea what the purpose of this is?

Actually I've just read a little red stamp on the BP as well, which says "SATS APF FORGERY DETECTION" - perhaps related? I can't recall if, or how diligently my P/P was checked at the gate, but maybe it is an extra level of checking for BP swapping for people with the same first and last name.

I haven't seen it before. But maybe there was someone on flight with the same first and last name as you. And they added the middle name to avoid any confusion.

Good theory richie9x and not impossible, but very unlikely - my surname is not common at all (only 14 in the Oz whitepages, one of those has the same first initial).

never seen this before, but I must say I usually don't pay much attention to the boarding pass as long as it has the seat I want on it I'm happy. Will pay more attention next time I fly through SIN

I have noticed recently that my middle name/initial is being requested more and more when booking flights.

Blame the u.s and their allies imho.

I have always had my middle initial on my boarding passes (QF passes).
Mind you I'm one of those weird folks whose middle name is their preferred name.
OT QF is one of the few companies that always use my preferred name in their emails etc.

I think its a SIN thing. Everytime I fly through there, I always had my middle name hand-written onto the BP either by the check-in person or the security guy just before clearing immigration (mainly fly JQ so no service line to speak of)

Must say I haven't noticed it on mine and I flew through SIN 9 times last year.

Probably flying through next month again so will keep a look out for it.

The only letters I actively look for on the boarding pass and try to avoid are 'SSS' on flights to the USA. For some reason with me they appear too frequently. :(

This happened to me as well last month when I flew JQ to SIN, my middle name was hand written in MEL. Nothing further said or noticed and no impediment to the travel experience.

I have nevr had, not do I ever expect to see, a middle name printed on my boarding passes ;)

JUst flew back from SIN last night with a domestic connection. The SIN boarding pass had my middle name on it, and the check in agent pointed it out to me. My domestic boarding pass issued at the same time did not.

I noticed that it was checked by the fraud detection folk!

So what do they do with peeps that have no middle name? My wife and daughter as examples (with my two-word surname a middle name is both coughbersome and superfluous).

Maybe for people who have common names it may help.

Reminds me of a story. Many (many) years ago I was outside in the driveway of a friend's house. Standing at the rear of my car. In the dark. I was about to leave. I t must have looked suspicious, as a passing Police patrol stopped (yes a passing Police car, it was a long time ago).

Anyway, they got out and started asking questions. And then asked to see my DLicence.

Looking at it he then asks "so, what's your DOB David" (David is my middle name, but ironically, the name of my friend standing next to me). My friend say's "what?'.

This was then followed by a lot of VERY suspicious looks and increased tension by the two officers. Till we explained it to them.

They looked a bit disappointed after that. Maybe they were looking for a stoush.

If the middle name appeared at the bottom of the boarding pass, it's just a 'comment' that the CSA can put down there.. It's just a free text area, anything can go on there.
