In August 08 I arrive into San Francisco at 10.15am on QF73, and was booked AA in F Class to depart SFO to ORD at 2.15pm which allowed plenty of time to connect. However, I have just checked AA.com and noticed they have made a schedule/flight number change from a 2.15pm departure from SFO to a 1.15pm departure which then gets me to Chicago at 7.40pm.

I am then booked on another flight (same ticket) to Detroit leaving 9.50pm. I have not been to ORD before, and from my google searches it is apparent it is huge airport so when flying domestic is 2hrs sufficient connection time at ORD.

Secondly, and this might save me a bit of hassle, when I leave from SYD on QF73 can I check my bag and golf clubs all the way through to DWT. I know I have to collect them to clear customs etc at SFO, but the bag drop at SFO would be better.

Should have heaps of time.

All AA domestic flights will be from the same terminal (Terminal 3). You may have to change concourse, but this will not take very long. You will not be subjected to security rescreening.

I arrived into ORD on an international flight recently and had to clear C&I and transfer to a domestic AA flight. All up took about 70 minutes from when I stepped off the JL flight to getting to the Flagship Lounge, including the train ride between terminals and security screening.

Thanks Shano,
As mentioned I have not been to ORD previously, so a little checking doesn't hurt. I have 7 domestic YUP flights within three weeks in August and AA have now made 3 schedule changes since booking them five weeks ago.

What is your DTW flight on AeAgle? Two hours should be fine in any case, but it may leave from a different concourse.

In any case, you should be able to check your luggage all they through; whether it makes it to DTW with you is another matter.

Hmm connecting today from AA154 (NRT--ORD) to AA350 (ORD-LGA) today with 2 1/2 hours at ORD - based on your 70 mins from seat to F lounge I dont reckon I will get much time in the F lounge...

Now just need to check those lounge access policies again...

I actually abandoned the F Lounge in favour of the AC due to over crowding (and a shower)

Hopefully should be able to make it T5-T3 in an hourish; I would check which gate your onward flight from ORD goes from before deciding on whether to flounge since it can be a long walk from K17 to some of the gates. The AC may be a more conveniant option for a fairly short wait

Of course, there's no showeres in the ORD F/L.

In all honesty, the A?C (for moi) has a nicer feel to it. :D

All the flights are with AA, except for the last with is AA operated by Alaska from SEA to SFO. I will be in DTW for four days so that might give them time to deliver it if the luggage gets lost, and usually have sufficient gear in my carry one to last me a week. This is a golfing trip and everything happens for a reason, so if the clubs don't turn up I was thinking of buying new ones in any event. Most of my games are in Canada in the last two weeks.

But the Flagship Lounge has self-service drinks ... and food. So that wins out every time for me. I have not seen the ORD FL being overcrowded in my 5 or so visits.

If everything is running on time you should be fine - but there's the problem. ORD is terrible when it comes to on-time ops and weather. It is so stretched in terms of capacity if any one little thing goes wrong, it starts getting backed up badly. I avoid ORd like the plague - successfully so far - I must be the only EXP never to have flown in/out/through ORD. Beware if a summer storm hits, there will be delays and cancellations galore.
