I have moved my query from a thread in Open Discussion, as it's focused on QF flights and hopefully some savvy people will be able to help me out... I am about to leave a note to this effect in the old thread located here http://www.australianfrequentflyer....on/connection-times-in-hong-kong-30339-2.html

I am looking to book flights from Australia to London via HKG, using the AU site for the SYD-HKG-SYD sector (I'm based in BNE but a lot of flights go via SYD it seems) and the HKG site for the HKG-LHR-HKG sector (thanks to you clever AFFs for this idea on saving funds). The plan is to book Y ex-AUS and then Y+ ex-HKG, as that is really all my funds will allow me... Travel dates are 10 or 11 Aug from Oz and leaving LHR on 29 August.

Any idea if:
(a) I would be able to link these flights on the same PNR after booking separately?
(b) I took QF87 and then QF29 flights, is the connection time of 1hr 55mins feasible (barring delays) or even something that QF would allow?
(c) these flights have been running on-time lately? There is only one QF flight from HKG-LHR a day it seems so if I miss that one I guess I'd have to wait until the next day...

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out. As usual, I understand all this is dependent on any delays/action from QF or the airport/s.

I have answered in the other thread as well but the information may still be relevant.

No problem linking bookings but it does not protect from misconnects.

(b) I took QF87 and then QF29 flights, is the connection time of 1hr 55mins feasible (barring delays) or even something that QF would allow?
That is a valid connection.

Just out of curiosity have you tried a dummy booking SYD-LHR to see what flights are listed?

(c) these flights have been running on-time lately? There is only one QF flight from HKG-LHR a day it seems so if I miss that one I guess I'd have to wait until the next day...
When you have linked your flights QF will be aware that you will be arriving on QF87. You will also get your boarding pass in BNE/SYD earlier in the day so you will be checked in for the flight. If there are enough passengers on a delayed flight connecting to QF29 then they may hold QF29 for a little while. Otherwise as you say there is another QF flight the next day.
