Hi
I have booked a business class classic reward flight from Melbourne to Singapore on Qantas. I am considering amending the reservation to add a business class classic reward flight from Singapore to Tokyo on Japan Airlines, departing 6 hours after we are due to arrive in Singapore.

If the booking is amended so that both tickets are in the same reservation and the Qantas flight is delayed to Singapore such that we miss the Japan Airlines flight, what would happen? Are Qantas or Japan Airlines required to get us on a following flight in the same class?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry, I can’t answer your question, but there’s no way I would change this reservation unless you have access to Hobart or Auckland call centres. If not, you can almost guarantee that it will get stuffed up and you’ll loose the lot.

Can you leave a day between flights?

Yes, normally you are protected if flight 1 is delayed and you miss flight 2. If on seperate tickets, no cover unless your travel insurance covers it.

If this is currently a single, one-way ticket on Qantas I think it's reasonably safe to expect it will be re ticketed if amended. But yes, no way I'd touch it if it had any partner airline seats.

But yes, if you're nervous, do a seperate booking and enjoy a night in Singapore. I don't think you'll save anything by combining the tickets as it doesn't meet Oneworld award rules of 2 non-qf airlines.

Agree with excel, as the first leg is qantas there is nothing to lose here. If they don’t ticket in time they will be able to reinstate the QF leg by converting a revenue seat to an award one.

Nothing to lose in this case.

If all on the one ticket standard rules apply so the passenger will be accommodated on an alternative flight to their destination. If the disruption occurs before the day of travel… schedule change or cancellation by JAL, it becomes a bit more tricky as you need to rely on JAL accommodating you on an alternative.
