My mission this year (31st Jan 2010-31st Jan 2011) is to attain QF Gold FF...

Seems pretty easy for most with the status runs that I have seen on here but it certainly isn't easy with you own $$ flying discount economy.

Nevertheless I have two trips planned this year and I was hoping you guys might be able to maximise the SCs on these.

Planning to head to EU in SEP and the US in DEC, and from what I can see these will earn 140 SC each - still a far cry from 700 to attain Gold. So the question is can anyone suggest any tips for maximising SC or a couple of flights I could incorporate in SEA/EU/US for a big SC earn. I was thinking maybe coming home from the US via Auckland and doing the LAN - SY business class leg for 80SC...

I forgot to add I'm travelling with a partner so can't really throw in any massive status runs, but I could incorporate a few legs here and there.

Any help is appreciated as always!

Forgot to mention I'm currently Silver + QP... If I do renew QP and then get SG a few months later do their credit your QP membership or something?

They suspend your QC membership - it's restarted when you lose SG.

If you attain SG, your QP membership would be "Suspended" until such time as your status may downgrade. (FWIW, I have had ~2 months so suspended for the last 13 years - It will probably remain so since I have attained Life Time SG)

Most cost effective way at the moment to get the 600 or so SC's you needs are YUP type trips within the USA.

To reach Gold you will need 700SCs.

It really depends on where in Europe and the US you will be going to, then it might be possible to construct an itinerary for you to reach Gold.

If you are only going to London and Los Angeles that restricts your options, and it makes it tough to give you options.

Qantas are currently advertising Sydney to London is $1899 so it really depends on your budget.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If starting to start taking circuitous routings or extra trips, do make sure that the extra costs involved do not exceed the value of the status. V easy to get status if desperate, but don't let the look of a shiny card exceed its value

If just wanting status, with a EU run, the easiest method to me would be to fly AA to EU via the USA and sign up for the Platinum Challenge. This will easily complete the challenge and provide OW Sapphire benefits though till Feb 2012 and should have v little extra cost

Have you looked at going via HNL with JQ starclass as part of the trip to LAX, $2500 for 280 sc's , interestingly fares are not loaded for DEC 2010 yet.

Yep and the OP already has pinned down 140 ... hence 600 'odd', specifically 560 (if no other flying).

If you're coming home via AKL you may as well go via AKL too, so for $700 that's 160SC's taken care of.

You're going to need to find some good value YUP's and if you're short at the end, I'd suggest another trip to AKL, but just think how much that's going to cost.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I now have food for thought!

Does anyone know the cheapest OW fare to EU ex BN for SEP at the moment? QF had it for $2k last week but the sale must have ended cause now its back up to 2.5K... :(

Is it likely there will be another sale or is it only up from here till sept?
