More FF seats to Buenos Aires – how likely?

I need 2 one way tickets from Sydney to Buenos Aires for mid January 2012 (we are returning by cruise ship) and was hoping to get economy FF seats on QF. However, when they were available for my dates, I didn’t have enough points and, now that I have enough points, seats for all suitable dates have gone. How likely is it that more FF seats will be made available at some time in the future?

Looking at other options, purchasing one ways is out of the question (currently around $3000 each on QF or LAN – return is $3200). However, I have noticed that one ways from Auckland are much more reasonable - around $1500 on either Qantas (via SYD!) or LAN (via SCL). Combined with a cheap SYD-AKL flight, this seems like a pretty good solution. I’m aware that Aerolineas is also available and cheaper, but I’ve heard so many bad reports that I’m not considering them. I’m not really interested in long, long options via LAX etc.

I’m unsure whether to book up the flights from Auckland now (not knowing how long these prices will last) or to keep checking the FF situation. Any ideas?

What level frequent flyer are you with Qantas, I know higher levels, like Platinum and Gold, have better chances at requesting reward seats become available.

Unfortunately only Bronze

Extremely unlikely you could get them to release seats for you then, but I’m not sure if more seats will naturally become available or not.

Also, welcome to AFF!

Hopefully someone with more experience on this route or with redemptions will speak up.
