With the interest generated by the First Ever Flight thread I thought this one might be an interesting variation.

My most comfortable, though unpleasant flight ever was once again in a DC3 :!:

This was in September 1979 in an RAAF aircraft that had previously been fitted for The Queen.

Unfortunately this was not an enjoyable trip as we were being flown from Laverton back to Oakey for the Court of Enquiry for a fatal CT4 crash that claimed the life of a good friend and comrade. About 2 hours earlier I was the last person to fly the aircraft that was involved in the crash. :(

Not to drag the conversation of topic.

My most comfortable flight would be SQ A380 in J: SQ inaugural revenue flight.

I hope Emirates J can beat it in 2 weeks time.

Qantas F should be good when I get to it; 2 years and 3 months away.

Forget about the most comfortable flight bit; can you tell us more about the CT4 incident.

I can think of two that my wife and I had last year on a round the world trip. The first was Singapore to London in economy (QF). After a great meal and some lovely red wine we took a sleeping pill and woke up refreshed about an hour and a half out of LHR. The exoerience was augmented by a great shower in the BA lounge in T5 followed by a lovely breakfast.

The second was following a business class upgrade on points from HNL - SYD in October last year(also QF). Not only was the experience very comfortable but the service was superb.

Most comfortable flight(s) were most definitely my flights on my AONE4 in 2001 on QF, CX, BA and AA. Was my first taste of First flying and comfort up the point end was excellent. Certainly made it hard to return to Economy in later years...

Probably my most memorable (of those comfortable flights) was my LHR/JFK flight aboard Concorde ... in Row 9.

My most comfortable flight ever? Hmm... Perhaps when The Spending Machine and I were the only pax in F on a DME/SIN flight aboard a SQ 77W. I haven't flown R on SQ yet, but the F product on the 77W is really something else...

And having mentioned R class, I must agree with Lindsay Wilson about Corcorde - those are flights one never forgets, no matter how many miles one racks-up.

Mine would probably be one of the SQ flights I've taken in J in the new lie flat business class on the 77W. THe best of which, I had seat 11K - which is a bulkhead and is configured such that you have the full width of the seat to take advantage of in which to put your feet (non bulkhead seats require you to tuck your feet into a smaller space underneath the seat in front). Got on at MEL at 00:40, changed into some shorts/tshirt, had a cointreau on ice not long after take off, made up my bed and then slept soundly (no artificial assistance other than the nip of cointreau) until woken 20mins before landing. Perfect!

Actually not long after that I got a miraculous op-up to F on QF9 from SIN-LHR, and when sleeping I found the taper in the F seats at the feet rather uncomfortable (confined feet space), and thus I think the new SQ J product - in the bulkhead seats - more comfortable solely for this reason.

Tough to choose - it's between the QF A380 Delivery Flight last year in J, and a RAAF VIP flight up to Jakarta a few years back with John Howard. Maybe the latter by a nose.

I'm jealous - I haven't been on a VIP flight on a larger aircraft. I've had a few rides on the G550, but despite the reverential regard in which Gulfstream aircraft are held, I didn't think it was all that wonderful.
