Noticed this in the SMH today

Unlike Liu Yiqian, a Chinese billionaire collector who this week bought an Amedeo Modigliani nude for $170.4 million and pays for his purchases using his AMEX card, Mr Lau wired the money to the two auction houses in New York, according to copies of receipts obtained by Bloomberg.

one would assume he would earn points ....at 1-1 that's 170,400,000 points!

made me think.... what other stories are out there where Amex was used for a very large purchase? assume to earn points

170 million.... Drop in the ocean to COVE ATO in the last few years ;)

But Cove wouldn't use his Amex to pay the tax bill, the points aren't worth the cost.
For me nothing in 5 figures, I am a lightweight.

Bundy Bear have you been eating too many Queensland bananas? Don't sailors need to be light weight to win races.
ANZ Black,Westpac Platinum Kris Flyer and ANZ Black Rewards still have co-branded Amex cards you could be using if you wanted to help your frequent flyer point tallies from your workplace.
Out of order now would be Amex Ultimate, CBA Amex, Velocity Amex Platinum,NAB, Westpac Black to name a few that are pretty useless.

Nothing anywhere near those Chinese purchases, but a few years ago I bought my wife's new car on Amex - about $180k. That was before the $/point ratio was downgraded to 1:1, so we ended up with enough QF points for a RTW J redemption.
