Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster and all that jazz

I have a quick question.......

I just completed a round the world flight, SYD-LAX-SFO-LAX-JFK-LHR-HKG-SYD

On the LHR-HKG leg I was booked on Qantas however due to the ash cloud the flight to LHR was cancelled out of MEL and as such no flight from LHR. Qantas moved me to a Cathay flight (which was amazing!), my question is as I was due to receive double status credits on the Qantas flight due to the promo what are my chances of writing to Qantas and having them credit the extra status credits?

My points + status from the Cathay flight haven't posted yet so not sure what they will post as.

Side note: We (me and 2 business partners) received what can only be described as outstanding service on the Cathay flight. Flight attendant always served us first for meals/drinks, personal welcome aboard as we took our seats, constantly checking in to see if we needed anything, bringing us bottles of water multiple times within the flight (no-one else received), exit row seating at check-in (no cost).

We put it down to the fact that we were WP, SG & SG who had been moved there by Qantas so perhaps they were prompted that they could steal FF clients from Qantas? Not sure but that is the best we could come up with.

Cheers

You can ask for original routing credit which is what people normally ask fr if hey get shunted around due to problems - normally it is for things where your route changes rather than your carrier but I would call QF and ask.

Out of interest were you in Biz or Economy?

Slumming in Economy which is what made it so odd to us....

Thanks for the replys, will drop them an email after the flight credits to my account, my only thinking is that we were on a one-world world traveler which credits as a discount econ class, if in the change over Qantas booked us in an economy fair bucket then I will essentially receive the double status credits anyway as it will credit as econ instead of discount econ. Just waiting to see what it posts as.

Even if it posts as a CX flight in full economy, u will miss out on some points as there is no 75% (SG) or 100% (WP) status bonus for flights operated by CX, so may be worthwhile chasing anyway!

CX always look after elite OneWorld pax. It makes any trip on them very worthwhile from a service perspective. I travelled on them (in J as a WP) earlier this year and was looked after very well. They take great pride in their service.

Have you dropped a note to them? I do know they take such feedback very seriously and the staff are notified by their managers of the comments.

Not meaning to be rude but that "always" does not belong in that statement as my experiences are very mixed especially in economy.

I have only ever been welcomed once (from 5 flights) in economy and one time I had my seat taken and the FA's were just standing around looking at each other.

As always people have different experiences. Maybe I have been fortunate but with my 6 (J) CX flights this year I was very well looked after. Last year when I travelled MEL-HKG-PVG in Y was enjoyable and I was looked after as a SG so no complaints here.

PS I don't consider you rude for sharing your experiences. I think it is important that good and bad experiences are documented. It is nice to hear good things, it is essential to hear the bad things so you can improve.

Same with me, flew with Cathay many times Syd-Pek round trips & even one time HKG-JFK and never got anything special as Qantas SG, all economy seats though. Beverage service is below average, Coke in big bottles, at least I get a can with Qantas.
