Just going in Y, possibly PE, but is there any discernible difference between QF11 and QF7? I do prefer to transit in Dallas, but are there any noticeable load differences between the two flights?

Thanks everyone

QF7 is weight restricted, so never full. If you book down the back, you can often get a row to yourself (sit in the aisle so people don't walk by thinking the aisle and middle are empty as you sleep in the window, and "join" your row (as someone did on my last QF8).

QF7/8 felt REALLY long, but could have been psychological knowing I was on a longer flight.

Also if Amex Plat, the Amex lounge in DFW is great, if you don't have status for lounge access otherwise.

Your domestic journey (if Dallas is not your final destination) may be limited, as AA dominates DFW, while you have several options of carrier out of LAX.

Thanks. Is both 7 and 8 weight restricted? Have been reading about 8 being restricted, just wanted to make sure 7 is too, I guess it would make sense it would be?

QF7 is not weight restricted.

Sorry. My bad. That’s correct. It’s only weight restricted coming back.

Any info on the weight restriction for the new config aircraft? IIRC old config was upwards from 80 Y class seats blocked.

I also prefer the DFW transfer process and for some end points it's one stop vs two.
Agreed with the better chance of a spare seat (or a whole row) down the back in on 7/8 vs the LAX options. In saying that I have been on a very full QF8 a couple of times.

I'm assuming that the $190/equivalent points for an extra legroom seat wouldn't be refunded if I asked for an empty row (if available) for QF8?

Trying to decide which would be more sought after, laying down, or noone reclining into me?

We had a really 'helpful' crew on the QF7 a few years ago... the plane wasn't full and they proactively moved passengers around to give everyone the opportunity for a spare seat beside them. If you'd snagged a row of three or four you lost it pretty quick as they moved someone into the spare seat leaving only the middles free. So no 'beds' for anyone.

Yeah not very helpful lol. I wonder how that works now though, if they're offering a row for $250, surely they wouldn't be moving people into that row after boarding?

Correct, they shouldn't move anyone into your row, if you've paid for it.

Keep in mind, the arm rests don't go all the way up (I've never looked for any release button though), so its not like sleeping on a lounge, its a bit like sleeping on the vert edge of the lounge.

Interesting. Did they actively make everyone move back to assigned seats for landing?

Also, I've been reading about how qf8, in the past, had needed to stop in Nadi, NZ etc. I'm assuming due to this weight restriction. Does this happen much anymore?

I would take extra legroom, and a valium, over a row.

In rows 79, 32, and 35 (only 79 on the new config) have the 3rd seat removed

Not that I recall... I guess there must have been the standard announcement. Some folk didn’t move far (window block to centre block), and others didn’t take their hand luggage from the overhead... so i guess those in the latter group naturally returned to be near their belongings.

Lots of people were asking about moving, before taxi.

The crew were very jovial and it looked like they’d done this before. They moved down the cabin, one on each aisle, shuffling people as they went, saying everyone will have more space.

I believe there’s something on the boarding pass to indicate the passenger has the whole row?

It happened infrequently when it was operated by B747 Don’t recall it happening much since it moved to A380. (Back then it stopped in BNE, not SYD). If the A380 was running tight it would go to BNE before diverting to a pacific island.

its not so much a weight issue, well it is but the weight issue is caused by a fuel vs headwind issue. The stronger the headwind, the more fuel required, the less weight can be carried. You have a tailwind (Jetstream) on the other direction which is why it’s not an issue.
