Well I had reason to celebrate yesterday... JQ35 was delayed by 2.5 hours, allowing my daughter and I more valuable time in the F lounge, and secondly after the flight my 8yo is now a silver FF! I actually asked her if she wanted to go to Sydney for lunch in the F lounge and if she did she would get silver - more importantly, the bag tags (she is desperate for her own!).

So, I am crazy that I am excited my daughter is a frequent flyer? or have I condemned myself to years of hearing her chasing for WP???

on a side note, the lunch was fantastic.. dessert was even better!

That all depends on whether my parent/child theory kicks in (about an 80/20 success rate).

eg. If your father/mother/parents took you camping/fishing/shooting/<insert activity here> as a child, in adulthood you prefer the opposite (hotels/dining out/animal liberation) - and vice versa. (Note prefer)

So potentially, your daughter will rebel against this enforced servitude to the lure of higher status metals, in the form of plastic cards, and do something sensible like ride the bus everywhere ;)

But congratulations to said daughter, nonetheless :)

I think the latter is true,
one of my younger offspring asked on our last flight over the ditch "Mummy will there be servants on the aircraft serving us food?" as we left the SYD FLounge

Daughters are always high maintenance and you possibly have just made yours higher maintenance :!:

(Says he with his 8yo extremely high maintenance granddaughter reading over his shoulder)

Beat this! My 3 1/2 year old daughter made Silver the same day I made silver for the first time, and to top it off her pack arrived the day before mine. Though my daughter is more worried about the seatbelt light on the plane and the cookie and ham situation in the QC. I wish my parents signed me up early, gotta love it!

Proving once and for all, airlines and frequent flyer programs are like drugs. The younger you get em' addicted the better ;)

Pvcmenace, that's just too cute. If only we older frequent flyers were as easily pleased by QP fare.

We are currently playing host to a 14 year old from Canada who flew here with 3 of her classmates, one of whom made a video of their flight on Air Canada. She took a few shots of her meal, which looked much nicer than one would expect in whY, then a shot of her seat - bl**dy hell, her parents paid for J! Our daughter will do the reciprocal trip early next year and is already whingeing about 14 hours trans Pacific. Unfortunately she has been corrupted by a previous family holiday to Europe in J (with another in the next few weeks) - how stupid am I for allowing the girls to join their parents at the pointy end? It's bad enough having a high maintenance spouse, but 2 "mini shes" will keep Daddy poor for a very long time!

My Little Miss 4yo got to SG this year on our way over to Europe with her grandparents. Though, she's only ever flown QF with us & doesn't know what it's like to hang around the terminal, yet.
I have been surprised at a friend's 3-4yo reaching the same status, and then this year I've managed to get DH and Little Miss to SG and me to WP. Little Miss is going to get one heck of a shock when we fly Y again after experiencing mark I & II skybeds this year.
An ad for home & away & a trip to Hawaii just came on - Little Miss just asked when we could go back!!!
If only TAA had had a frequent flyer program when I was her age ... ;)

I used to have a 3 year old WP courtesy of a gruelling (but great fun for me) DONE4 in 2009. Her status was commented on by a few QF check-in agents in the following 12 months but one of the last agents that mentioned it told me that I would be surprised how many there were! Anyway she’s now languishing as an SG due to daddy’s current penchant for flying EK and VA, thus depriving her of status runs.

But in all seriousness I do think it can be an issue. She’s only ever flown long-haul whY once in her life (and, at that age, the difference probably didn’t even register). So her J/F habits are fairly firmly entrenched. We’re off to New York City next week and she asked me whether she could have a shower on the flight (a la EK F) and seemed very disappointed when I said that there was no shower!

“Why you little...” ;)

That's awesome!
Besides, there's worse you could inflict upon your children. My daughter is 11 tomorrow and I have singlehandedly been responsible for her being a Richmond supporter, which is akin to a mild form of child abuse.

I'm in the same boat here!! I have had plenty of discussions in the past about my daughter being a Richmond FC member!!!

Having experience with the Afl players association (Andrew Demitriou) and Geelong football players as tenants, I'd prefer airline loyalty anyday over football loyalty, especially as my daughter grows up!

Travel being my only indulgence my child will be lifetime SG by the age of 18. I expect to be taken around the world by them in my old age and if my carer has status that can only be a good thing.

My 11 year old has been SG since age of 5 due to my wife and him visiting family in France and Morrocco every year plus our annual juants to Fiji and Thailand as family.
This year he will crack WP in July following our RTW trip in F Class.
He has been forwarned that when he reaches 12 it's back to cattle class for him.:(
