I had a conference in NZ this past week and thought and since I could claim everything as a deduction, I didn’t need too many more excuses to fly First class in an EK A380 from Auckland back to Sydney. I picked up Sale prices so it was roughly $750AUD for a QF flight number (so 120 status credits).

There’s quite often sales from New Zealand (you have to look at QF’s NZ website otherwise it’ll give you the Aussie price which will be closer to $1300) and it’s a great and relatively affordable way of flying EK F (as there’s no other way I’d be able to experience it!)

I managed to grab seat A1 (there were only about 4 others in the F cabin (hence why those sales are on so often) and the experience was amazing.

Since a picture shows a thousand words, I’ll stop here and let you have a look at the video I’ve made.

I’m happy to answer questions!

Hi PaulST what great memories your video brings back. I did this trip earlier in the year and loved it (although AKL-MEL but same experience).

Look forward to your next videos.

I believe that the MEL flight is actually a bit longer so you'll get to enjoy it a little bit more. :)

Sadly I haven't got any flights booked (other than short haul to MEL and BNE from SYD) in the near future with the next one probably being QF127 and 8 in May next year (prem econ). It's certainly been a fun few months!

You are correct usually a tad over 4 hours enough time to eat shower and drink. Have enjoyed once or twice :D Great Video well done

When I travelled AKL-BNE F was full. I requested a shower on boarding and was told it might not happen. Thankfully it was agreed to. But I was the only one to do so. Tick another thing off the bucket list.

Great TR!
You managed to capture the constant flow of bloody PA announcements on EK
i liked the long walk to the bar! (one of the problems of being in row 1)

One nice thing about the EK F cabin that didn't come through is the lack of overhead lockers. You don't notice them until you slum it in J class again and wonder "why does it feel so cramped?"

Did they let you have an extra long shower?

Very nice job on the video PaulST. Can you recall the red wine offerings?
Hey mate, thanks.
Check out 3:42 on my video.

I didn't pay much attention to them as I can't stand red. :)

Thanks Russ. Yep, it's certainly a long aircraft! And those J seats do look incredibly squashy. I suppose that's the issue you have if you want privacy vs space. While I like the privacy (of the EK and CX J), I quite like the space of the Skybed 2s too.

Nope the shower was 5 mins only. :) That was long enough, though. It's quite a weird sensation standing in the shower after several glasses of DP with the ground shaking below you (well I think it was...) :)

Really? I recalled thinking that I should have put my bag in the lockers so that it wouldn't wreck my view but then never got around to it (DP possibly had something to do with that). There are no overhead lockers are there? There wasn't that many places to store stuff in the suite so that could actually be a problem.

Some pedantry here but you get five minutes of water flow which you can turn off and on during your shower. So strip off, get in and get wet. Turn off water and lather up, then turn on again rinse off and do the hair or what ever order you choose

You can turn the water off and on as many times as you want.

Oh and I loved my shower in the air and would certainly appreciate one when flying to LAX next month. But sadly the QF A380 doesn't have one yet, let alone two, :)

You do an excellent job with these video TR's PaulST - thank you. - I have done the trip over and back in F and it was good to re-live it again while watching. Got me thinking about booking another

You our may have already mentioned - but what sort of camera are you using? I assume it is pretty small as very few people in the footage seem to look directly at it.
