Having finally convinced my wife to leave the kids at home with my parents and run away together somewhere, we ended up needing to book with AirAsia. I'd heard a range of stories about strict luggage rules, inflexible staff etc, but the experience was painless!

Checking-in took a while for both flights, but that is to be expected. As a QF WP, I'm not used to waiting in long lines, but I has on holidays so it didn't really matter. The service on board was efficient, the food we pre-ordered was worse than average, but the flight was smooth.

There was a thread a few months ago asking how cheap would fares have to be to fly a LCC, AirAsia was more than 1/2 the price of Thai, great value I think!

BTW, if you haven't been to Chiang Mai (CNX), do it, amazing place!

I too have the same thoughts on Asia, although my experience is SIN KL, so short and difficult to make a thorough judgement.

I will fly with them again for shorts in SEA, I may also consider therir Y+ to KL next year, jury is our on F1 location to attend, so it may end up being KL and Shanghai

Agreed about the seats in A320, very similar to JQ and fine. Certainly very difficult to ignore for a short flight considering how cheap they are!

Thanks for the write-up. Considering a trip to Langkawi (from KUL) this weekend - for less than $110 return, inc taxes (good flight times too)...hard not to!

For the shorter flights (between malaysia, thailand, singapore etc) it's worth paying extra for a hot seat if you're concerned about room - from my experience, almost no one pays for them, and the FAs are doggedly strict about keeping people out of them who haven't paid for it. So you're very likely to get a row to yourself.

My favourite meal is the chicken briyani. Nom nom nom.
