Hi everyone
My next trip is going to be as follows, all with redemption:
Qantas HBA-MEL-SYD (business class) 27 November
Has anyone been on the new "downgraded" Qantas flight from Hobart to Melbourne? I usually fly VA and I am a Gold member but I was able to tie it to my next booking for no extra points. Do they serve lunch as it is a lunchtime flight? Is there any video entertainment? 2 hours layover in Melbourne.
Qantas SYD-NRT (business class) 27 November qf21
Have never been in the business lounge in Sydney for QF, I have 4 hours layover.
Does anyone know about the food on the Qantas Japan flight? Is there a Japanese menu and what is the quality compared to the Western menu? Can we actually find out the menu in advance?
I plan to visit Nikko National Park in a long day from Narita on the Friday, then sightsee around Tokyo on the Saturday. Is there luggage storage in Narita airport?
Singapore NRT-LAX (suites) 29 November sq12
Waitlisted booking for two months, finally lost patience, and had to do an economy redemption booking instead, and guess what, twelve HOURS later my waitlist cleared. I have been on suites once before from HKG-SYD, had a very good night's sleep, but unfortunately the full benefit of the flight was lost as it was a midnight redeye flight and only snacks were served. I have seen the menu and expect the food to be of cordon bleu quality.
Delta Airlines (domestic first)
Got this deal for US $334 and will get me 120 status credits from Phoenix to Orlando via Minneapolis (brrr!!!!!) in domestic first. This will maintain my Gold Status throughout 2015 and into 2016. Arriving at Disney World in style!
Virgin Australia (premium economy)
I have never been on PE before on ANY airline, but I think I know what to expect. Marginally greater leg room (one of the few times I appreciate being a small person), glorified whY class food and a tossup as to sleeping quality, and reasonably good service. Will be able to use the lounge in LAX as I am a Velocity Gold member.
On a side note, one particularly nasty trick that Qantas use is they charge US domestic flights for redemption in business class at the "first class" rather than the "business class" rate, ie it will cost you three times the miles in economy. Qantas are amongst the stingiest FF system in the world and hence I will no longer be using them once my current miles are exhausted.
If you have ANY experience on any of these airlines (especially Qantas/Virgin) it would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
