Hi.

back in the year 2004 i order a qantas frequent flyer card.. its like a brown red card. Cost me 84.00 at the time one time fee.

I then was collecting points but not enough because i normaly travel brisbane to sydney mainly.

Now its been 3 or 4 years i havnt been flying and when i sign in at qantas wesbite to check my frequent flyer points.. it had (nill points) no points... So what happen there? where are my points i was collecting? Oh though i havnt been flying for years.

Now that im about to travel in may i am not sure either i should be using the same old card or re-new a newer card and start again ?

The card says member since march 04 (2004) But i havnt been flying since then.

So dunno what happen with my points.. which is a shame to think they have wiped it.

Perhaps i should re-new a new card who nows.

Also before i forget. Ive just brought online ticket with qantas bne to melb website. I forgoten to include my frequentflyer number on it. But i re-enter by sign in to type in that i have a frequentflyer card. So now thats there but not sure if its too late now?

Ive allready print out my aternary and because i forgoten to include my frequentflyer card added it wont show that on the print out of my aternary... But now tis showing on the website with my details just not what ive printed the most important part i had to print. I cant reprint it because they dont re-send aternary on emails again.

By the way the card is (bronze)

I need you to help me out with these questions.
I want to get the most out of it all.

But just rememebr ive only choosen a cheap flight posible rather then spend middle prices on that morning flight. Either they going to treat me like cheap because i brought cheap ticket online. Who knows.

Qantas points have an expiry of 3 years from the date of last qantas flights.

It appears you have not had any activity in your account for more than 3 years, so whatever points you have in the account would have expired, hence showing "0" in your points balance.

Having said that, the points will never expire as long as it doesn't lie dormant for more 3 or more years. Not a task too difficult to achieve, to be honest. Better than most asian FF where there is a 2 or 3 year expiry regardless of activity - that puts a pressure on you to earn and burn quickly, which can be a challenge to those who do not fly too frequently.

Hope that helps.

Some brief answers

- As said previously, you have to have some activity on your QFF account every 3 yrs for your points to remain.

- I would keep you existing membership as you can now collect points on that again with flights etc.

- As for your new flights, log onto the QFF website and Manage Your Bookings. From there you can link your itinerary to your membership number and then your points will follow after your flights.

- It doesn't matter how much you paid for your seat, you get the same service in the cabin you have paid for.

Qantas Frequent Flyer points expire if there is no activity on the account for 3 years. Check the Qantas Frequent Flyer terms and conditions that are published on the Qantas web site for details. Any form of account activity is sufficient to maintain the account, but if it is idle for two years, all points are lost.

9.2 Points Validity

9.2.1 Except as otherwise provided in these Terms and Conditions, Points will not expire as long as the Member remains an Active Member.

9.2.2 All Points held in a Qantas Frequent Flyer account of a non-Active Member will expire at the end of the 36th consecutive month for which the Member has not earned Points or Status Credits or redeemed Points. Within 60 days of the Points expiration date, Qantas will notify Members of the number of Points that are about to expire and the expiration date as follows:

(a) Online Activity Statements display a warning to the Member;
(b) Members who continue to receive paper Activity Statements, will receive an Activity Statement which includes a notification that points are about to expire; and
(c) Members who have opted to receive communications online and via email, will receive a notification within their monthly electronic newsletter.

Oh good thank you people.

When i choose the date and time and then paid it by visa card online for domestic qantas flight. I then had to print out the aternary on a a4 paper and i have to keep that safe. I would need to present this follow by a pension card or ID card.

But i forgoten to include the frequent flyer point card along with it on the time.

But 3 days later i sign back into qantas and ive added that i have a frequent flyer point. But that now might be too late because what ive had to print out is not showing that i have a frequent flyer card. But its updated on the qantas website just not printed.. So how would the qantas stuff be notice about this?? I do need points.. Given it a go at least.

By the way i even forgoten if i had to give them my bin number to use the frequent flyer point as in just collect points and not use it yet aniways since i have (nill points) at this stage. I think i would have to re-present my bronze card to the check in counter follow by the aternary that ive printed. But they might ask me for pasword i think for the frequent flyer card?

thank you again people much preciated your kind help.

By the sound of it you don't have an ANZ Qantas Visa card, but might be worth getting it as this would then assure you of activity with your QF account, unless you consider the benefits from your current visa better value.

Did you mean three there?

Just to clarify, do credit card point earnings count as activity? Or does it have to be an actual flight?

Yes for QFF credit card points count as activity (anything that creates an entry in your FF activity statement counts.)

This page on the QF website lists the different ways you can earn FF points.

As posted by others, any points earning via any of these in a 3 year period will keep your account active.

only if those points appear in your QFF account. Some credit cards deposit into QFF automatically each month, others accumulate in their own program and only get to QFF when you initiate a transfer. The second type will not generate QFF statement activity unless you transfer. Such a transfer will reset the 36 month inactivity counter.
