I summarise it as "comfort without flair" (it was actually quite pleasant, other than the lounge at DFW ... ew).
After flying Emirates and Cathay Pacific J recently, though, it was hard to be impressed by Qantas' offering.

PS. Let me know what you think. I'm rather enjoying this whole travel blogging thing!

Good info, balanced opinion, nice layout and good quality photos - an enjoyable TR Doctore1003

Nice report.

FYI. Basic spirits are now 'free' in the AA lounges (changed a few years ago). The price list (and the vouchers) are for Premium Spirits and some more substantive food items.

Also had you been Plat, or flying First you would have also got an invite to the Flagship Dining room (a small windowless box that used to be the smokers room - you would have seen it to the right from your photo of the bar area). Much more substantive food in there and all free alcohol.

Thanks for that! Yes I looked longingly into the first class dining area but couldn't get in as I'm a lowly SG. One day, though!

Amazing how few Qantas passengers knew to even try the AA lounge.

They don't advertise it as it cost them more.

Try finding anywhere on the Qantas website that F/J PAX arriving on QF1/QF9 can use the AA arrivals lounge at LHR T3.

Had to laugh about the Australian accents with the shift of Q call center to The Philippines.
Thanks for the report.

Great trip report, very informative and contains everything I am looking for in a good report :)

Thanks for the TR. I think Tony Hancock wouldn't be impressed with a supper menu. I wonder how much actually is available during the flight and how happy staff would be to serve it if requested. I had the distinct impression on any of the routes I have had where the supper features that FAs want to get it over and dusted as soon as they can.

Yes good point - I wish I'd asked now!

. I wonder how much actually is available during the flight and how happy staff would be to serve it if requested. .

There are three items *d as available thru the flight.
Given most people will at least try to sleep on that flight with early morning arrival, the menu makes sense to me.

Given it's a 17 hour flight leaving 8pm currently (1pm SYD time) my preference is for dinner and a couple of movies before sleeping with about 10 hours to go.

It not like LAX where its 4 hours later and a 14 hour flight (even then I like to take my time).

Oh yes, I see them now - not quite as good as first appears but my comment still stands. I wonder if they have those dishes available and if FAs are happy to serve them if I request them 5 hours in for example. My thought is that the FAs make themselves scarce once the supper time is over.
And I know many might like to sleep but I like a proper dinner :)

I'd say so long as they don't run out they'd be available up to when they start preparing breakfast and using the ovens.. press the bell and they will appear, even if they seem to be hiding

what? The Ignore button?

They do try to put you to sleep ... I resist openly and nicely by basically telling the CSM of my awake plan.

A very good review. The skybed is beginning to look like a relic from another time, in light of competition (be it from the business suite in the A330s or the J seat of the other major carriers). Still, the combined QF package just feels stronger than the offerings from others. Glad you had a nice (if not necessarily life changing) trip.
