I'm travelling today and have an exit row aisle seat pre-allocated (Q class so no upgrade option).

For months E/F has been showing my C seat as allocated (
occupied-seat.gif
); even this morning around 8:30am.

Jut did another seat map to check (see if I have any seat mates) and the seat is now unallocated (
blocked-seat.gif
).

www.Qantas.com/yourbooking and www.checkmytrip.com still show the 46C seat.

As for loading, this flight has been basically all 9's (even E7) for months. (Although yesterday afternoon, most WHY buckets dropped to 8 - back to 9s today.

Thoughts anyone?

How many other seats are unallocated? It may be an error. I have seen seats that appear unallocated and called up to request them, but been told by QF premium desk that they actually are unavailable.

Otherwise, I have no other ideas. Let us know what you find out when you check in!

Could someone at Qantas reservations unallocated it accidentally, whilst working on another booking, and then forgot to allocate it again? Are any exit row seats allocated? Qantas, or the computer, may have removed the pre-allocations for exit rows on this flight....

46H and J were showing allocated this morning - they remain allocated.

I will be checking in quite early so will have the answer later this evening. MYB still shows 46C.

I'm leaning towards an op-up ... if so then

Sorry for going a bit OT, but how are you seeing the Y seat allocations on E/F?

Every QF flight (other airlines seem ok) I try to look at seat allocations, it tells me that Y seat allocations are unavailable (no matter what economy class code I use - K, B, H, M, L etc), but W, J and F all work fine. The message I get is "The requested information could not be retrieved or is not available. This is likely due to invalid input criteria or lack of access to the information from the airline. Please revise the search parameters and try again."

As an example, if I check QF32 (SIN-SYD) on the 26Feb09 it shows:

R9 F8 A8 J9 C9 D9 I9 W7 T7 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 VC SC NC QC OC XC E0

No Y shown (seems to disappearing of all the International QF flights recently) but checking B, H, K, M, L, E all result in the error message above.

I also note that - despite the lack of result, my allocated number of E/F transactions drops one every time I search unsucessfully for the Y seat allocations.

By "most WHY buckets" I meant "BHKMLVSNQOX".

If I wish to see the actual "Y" fare bucket I use SeatCounter - The Booking Class Availability Machine or do not specify QF in the search airline.

Specifying QF:
  • B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 X9 E7
Not Specifying an Airline:
  • Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9
(I have an annual subscription to E/F, so my searches are "unlimited")

As far as seat maps go, I have seen that error myself many times - until this week.

On Tuesday the entire economy cabin seat map changed to either
occupied-seat.gif
or
blocked-seat.gif
which seems unusual as the "error" message you mention normally shows or a seat map does show with the cabin get filled with
occupied-seat.gif
aside from the odd one or three
free-seat.gif
.

I also cannot pull up a Economy cabin for that flight you mentioned. Note that in some cases where E/F ails in this, if you have a booking in that cabin www.checkmytrip.com will produce one.

Thanks for that - worked a treat - I have 66A; one of my preferred A380 selections, so pretty happy about that for my first A380 flight :D although the allocations look pretty full around me... hopefully the Y cabin will remain full with openings in W and/or J - may yet get another op-up - that would keep up my extremely good op-up rates over the last few months (5 of 9 flights). ;)

I would not rely too much on the CMT seat maps; they have been somewhat garbled for nearly a year. They should be employed as a guide only. FWIW, CMT is showing me in 46C as an orange seat icon in a sea of allocated blue thoughout the rest of the cabin.

In any case, the economy seat map for tonight's flight has now gone the way of "The requested information could not be retrieved or is not available." :-|

CMT shows all my 5 flights in Feb/March as ALL BLUE and E/F comes up with error. QF not being helpful ????????

Goodness, your flights must be really sold! The CMT seat map for my flight tonight only went all blues on Monday.

I was referring more to all the Y buckets being 0 or closed with W7 and J9 rather than the CMT seat map.

I get to sample Qantas Y+ for the first time ...

That's a nice upgrade to HKG (assuming that's where you're going!)

-- although would you have preferred a Y-J upgrade if you weren't on a 4 class plane???? :)

Congrats.

I guess that's the way of it these days ... I remember seeing posts on the FT BA forum coughing about the introduction of Y+ and the ["new age"] inability to travel in J after a WHY booking and an MFU.

At least Qantas give that points option Y->J. I'd be hard pressed to personally justify an exit aisle seat in WHY to Y+ on points.

Congrats!

I actually found Y+ to be much more comfortable than Y, and probably even worth paying cash for on long haul. What did you think of it, post-trip?

"post trip" I will advise. (Still to board, inbound was 70 minutes late, est departure in 40 mins)
