In just a few hours time [11 years ago], our world changed for the worst. 19 cowardly terrorists hijacked 4 planes in the US and ruined the world as we knew it.

Their [the terrorists] belief in their religion is so strong and tainted, that their hatred of our western way of life dominates their lives, and shows no boundaries when it comes to cowardly acts of terrorism and cruelty against westerners, against their own people and against the world in general. They show no demarcation between harming men, women and children.

Few images shock me of the WTC or Pentagon attacks any more as the media has saturated our lives with the footage, but occasionally an image tears at a heart string and reminds me of how different my brain operates compared to these animals - the most recent being a Taliban man shooting a lady in the head for alleged adultery.

(don't go there if easily upset)

The Koran (as does the bible) teaches love and harmony yet radicals find ways to twist and torture them words to fuel their sadistic beliefs - these people are not religious ambassadors, they are animals through and through, and this is not limited to just the Muslim religion, cast your mind back just a few decades if you need reminding...

Tonight I will toast the men and women who lost their lives 11 years ago and the men and women of our armed forces, the other innocents caught in collateral damage who have lost their lives, and I hope that some time in my lifetime, someone will stand up on a soap box and yell at the rest of the world telling them to just "stop the fighting and start getting along with each other" - mind you, as humans, we don't have a good track record there either as the last man who the world stopped and listened to, we nailed to a cross.

So - cheers to the world on this eve of 9-11 lest we forget...

Fantastic words and well said.

RIP to all those that lost their lives on that day and to the Military and Diggers who continue to put their lives on the line every day.

Although the images have been played over and over, I think the younger generation need to see and hear from the people who survived on that day.

We all need a refresher from time to time.

Couldn't agree more, extremism of any kind is often so far removed from the principals they claim they follow, that it's an insult to those people who genuinely hold those beliefs.

I was in the US last year for the 10th anniversary of 9/11. While in DC they had an exhibition of artifacts from the towers etc, and there were people you could talk to about their experiences also. Even 10 years on it was horrifying to watch the footage and news broadcasts that had been happening when the events unfolded...

It was a very strange day to be in DC; I arrived in the mall around 9am and there wasnt a soul to be seen for miles, other than police in every direction.

This year, September 11th does not exist for me. I depart USA late on September 10th (in about 1.5 hours from now) and arrive into Australia on September 12th. This was not planned in advance and just happened to be my travel days. However, I did bring to my attention the reality and history of the date. There has been much coverage on TV in the USA over the last weekend.

While I understand the sentiment MunitalP, I think you're confusing the Taliban with Al Q'aida. Honour killings and Sharia Law, practiced far outside the boundaries of Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, have nothing to do with 9/11 which was orchestrated by Al Q'aida.

The Taliban rigidly enforced their interpretation of Sharia law, including the practice of honour killings. That regime supported extremist groups within their territory. They all had an extreme and twisted view of their religion, IMO. I don't think there is a separation between the issues, even if they are different issues. Honour killing goes hand in glove with the Taliban and al Qaida.
