Bought a domestic VA ticket, am Red but NZ Elite. Does my NZ status mean I'm allowed 2 bags check in? Or because I bought from the VA site does my red allowance apply?

I think I got confused doing some reading so I bought an extra bag allowance but will it cost me anything to ditch this?? Somehow I've ended up with cover more insurance yet I thought I opted out and I'd like to ditch this also but I remember seeing a promo on double points? But I can't find that info again, but if it's true then I'd like to keep it.

Im having difficulty booking a car on the VA website so. Do points show up in the account faster if you book via VA website than another website and show up with VA card? Should I persist with the VA website or go elsewhere?

Does anyone use the velocity global wallet?

I have to say I think silver gets quite generous perks like 2 bags and international priority check in.

Yes, I believe you are allowed an extra piece. You'll earn Airpoints dollars but nor status credits.

I have the global wallet but don't use it as much these days. Whilst it is easy to load currencies and use as a normal card when travelling internationally, they don't provide the best exchange rates.

I've never been able to successfully book a car through the VA website, the search function doesn't seem to work properly and I've found it's usually an exercise in frustration so I always book directly with the rental companies. Most recent rental was with Thrifty, and I was pleasantly surprised to find the points appeared in my Velocity account a couple of days after returning the car.

On the other hand, we've had problems with Hertz and usually had to chase them up - on the last occasion, my husband rented a car for a month in Las Vegas through Hertz's Australian website, no points came through and when we followed it up, Hertz said it was a "corporate rate" and didn't qualify for points which was absolute rubbish as my husband didn't use any promo or corporate codes when booking, just paid the "Pay Now" rate as there was a good discount for prepaying for the rental. We spoke to Velocity about it but they couldn't do anything, so haven't used Hertz since (and have found these days they're often a more expensive than other options anyway).

Thanks for the info, I might try cancelling the extra bag......and booking the car through another website.
