Hi all

First time to site and posting so forgive my newness!

I need 250 status points to reach Platinum and status reassessment due end May 31st. I have 2 work trips that should give me another 135 status credits leaving me with 115.

I also have 250k in points. Any help appreciated.

thanks

Jason

Welcome to AFF.

Where are you based.
Sounds like its time for a JASA - a business class Any Seat Award that will earn Business status credits.

Welcome to AFF..

Depending on where you are based, something like a CBR-HBA via SYD would net you 100SC's then the positioning flight might be less than $200.

Where are you from? that will allow us to come up with some options!

Nick

Hi both and thanks for the welcome

I'm based in Melbourne

JB,

a MEL-BNE return as a JASA will net you 120sc's for about 48k plus some cash.

Markis10 is the JASA guru, he might have some other ideas..

Should be easy, if you want to go anywhere but Sydney...

Assuming you want to minimise point usage, and only want ~115 SCs:

16k QFF + cash:
HBA-SYD-CBR JASA 16k+$75.03. Add a normal MEL-HBA economy for $109, and a normal CBR-MEL for $115. Visit HBA and CBR for a total = 16k+$300 for 120 SCs.
MEL-SYD-HBA JASA 16k+$297.78 earns 100 SCs, add a normal HBA-MEL economy back for $109. HBA total = 16k+$406.78 for 110 SCs.
MEL-SYD-ADL JASA 16k+$302.64 earns 100 SCs, add a normal ADL-MEL economy back for $105. ADL total = 16k+$407.64 for 110 SCs.
MEL-SYD-CBR JASA 16k+$234.76 earns 80 SCs, add a normal CBR-SYD-MEL economy for $224. CBR total = 16k+$458.76 for 100 SCs.

24k QFF + cash:
MEL-SYD-BNE JASA 24k+$162.51 earns 80 SCs, add a normal BNE-SYD-MEL economy for $221. BNE total = 24k+$383.51 for 100 SCs.

32k QFF + cash:
MEL-SYD-CBR JASA 32k+~$470 earns 160 SCs. CBR total = 32k+$470.76 for 160 SCs.
MEL-SYD-HBA JASA 32k+~$600 return earns 200 SCs. HBA total = 32k+~$600 for 200 SCs.
MEL-SYD-ADL JASA 32k+~$600 return earns 200 SCs. ADL total = 32k+~$600 for 200 SCs.

36k QFF + cash:
MEL-SYD-PER JASA 36k+$163.92, earns 120 SCs, add a normal PER-MEL economy back for $245. 36k+$408.92 for 140 SCs.

48k QFF + cash:
MEL-SYD-BNE JASA 48k+~$320 earns 160 SCs. BNE total = 48k+~$320 for 160 SCs.

In any case it looks like you'll need to spend at least $400-$500 cash, unless you want to spend more points (and value the extra points at ~1c/point)

Unless you are flying alot of international segments with access to the F Lounges, then would the $400 + QFFP worth the cost for gaining domestic J Lounge access over domestic QP access?

The 100% bonus vs 50% bonus, means that if you fly at least 32,000 miles you'll be ahead QFF point wise...

Plus you'll get the added benefit that next year you won't need to earn 600 SCs to requalify gold, as you should soft drop back to gold...

Only international or longer domestic segments given the min 1000 points guarantee. If people are making WP flying SYD-MEL-SYD there is no status bonus benefit of being WP.

thanks so much everyone - need to do some serious study!

I am from the UK so fly economy to Scotland x 2 per year. Also planning a TRW trip on One World next year.

cheers

The value of platinum is not lounge access, it's just the general status in the airline eg. upgrades on oversold flights, first on in a disruption and (usually) better seating. Remember the size of this group is a very small fraction of the next tier (Gold).

I feel WP is particularly worth it when you do International trips, esp where connections are involved. If anything goes wrong you're first in line to get looked after. For some airlines like CX they're particularly nice to OWE. For 250 sc's I think it's worth the extra effort, especially if you're planning to do a RTW trip.

The flounge access is also nice... better food, fewer people to fight over the food and showers...
