Qantas
Platinum 1
I know this is very last minute, but I'm a bit new to all of this so I thought I'd put it out there to the brainstrust that is AFF. I'm hoping to get to Stockholm in J leaving Australia on 9th April and then leaving Stockholm on the 14th April (though dates are flexible).

I would prefer to try and maximise my QF points and SC earning potential. All the searches I have show J class for most ports in Aus to DXB and then economy from DXB-ARN. Has anyone flown Emirates economy within Europe? Is it manageable for 6 1/2 hours?

What happens with 16hr layovers in Dubai? Hopefully by the time I arrive, I'll have enough SC for platinum status, though how long it takes to credit, I don't know.

Should I even be crediting SCs to qantas, or should I open an account with Emirates. I'm hopeful for another Europe trip this year but otherwise, mainly stateside trips.

Many thanks in advance!

Have you looked at QR via DOH?

Look at AY although IiRC will involve 2 stopovers in either SIN, BKK or HKG then HEL

To maximise QF points and SCs you should fly QF to LHR and BA to ARN. To book this online you need to do a multicity search, if not only the EK/QF flights will show. I go to ARN 2-3 times every year and since I fly economy there is no way I'll get on an EK 777 or QR 787.

I would be looking at QR via DOH on the 777 and 787 in J. This will get you QF SC but not a lot of points.

Although I wouldn't be looking at revenue flights from MEL anyway, I would try and purchase points and get to Europe that way!

3 questions:
1. Do you have a budget?
2. What is your preferred Australian city of departure.
3. Why are you contemplating a 6.5 hour economy leg when there are so many airline options available?

Umm no budget really (ok, less than $10k or Mr Artemis will kill me!)

No preferred Aus city of departure (I'm flitting between Syd/Bne so these are a bit easier)

I'd prefer not to do 6.5hrs in economy if possible... but when I did a rough search, that's the way the fare came up (and no, I wasn't impressed since for $9k I really think it should be J all the way!).

Any tips? Please?

My tip is to forget Qantas.
Just fly Thai Airways J Class from BNE/SYD to ARN return for $7800

I'll look for better options tomorrow; or PM me if you struggle with booking this route.

Here are some prices and carriers options for your dates (SYD-ARN) return. For 10K you can also fly BA in First.

Thanks so much defurax and browski.... i will have a look at these!

Hi Artemis, this looks like the best compromise between prices, flight duration and QFF status credits and QFF points.
Book on Finnair website for $6787.00. You can also book on other dates if you wish to leave earlier etc. Seems a long way for just 3 or 4 days visit.
