Decided to upgrade the sound system in the media room, from an older Sonos system to the current offering. Plugged in, everything saw everything else. All good. That left me with an older Sonos soundbar to do something with, so I decided to pair it with the TV in another room. This bar uses an optical connection, and can be problematic, as many TVs downgrade the sound quality on optical output, depending upon the source. Anyway, I have a way around this, so I set it up exactly as it had been connected in the media room. Turned on. All worked nicely. Next day, turned it on again, and all sorts of weird issues with the TV. Disconnected everything, but TV is still useless (issues across the board). Power down. Reboot. Kick. Oh well, I got 10 years out of it.

Sometime ya just make changes and stuff can happen. Maybe you can console yourself the TV may have been on the way out in any case ...

Well, I guess it could have been the media room TV. That's also 10 years old, but was the height of tech at the time, and is still more than adequate.

Most likely the 10 yo tv was on its way out. Is seems it’s a very common phenomenon. There must be a law like Occam’s razor etc that states that when you change one piece of technology, another piece will fail in sympathy.

Besides the new OLED tvs such as LG C3 and just stunning in quality so probably time to upgrade. :)

Whilst the 80-90 inch TVs are lovely, I’d rather not have to buy one just yet. The theatre TV is also one of the rare passive 3d systems, and whilst now a dead tech, I quite like it.

I recently recommended an LG c4 to a neighbour, and that’s gone well. But, I’m retired, so bang for the buck has to be a major part of the equation. Historically, we had Samsung, but the theatre TV was LG. My preference was LG. This time I decided to see if saving some $ was viable, and am giving Hisense a go. TBA on that.

As an aside, I can tell how much each device is uploading/downloading from the internet. Samsung was so bad, that I completely blocked their access.

Just watch the fridge. Once they get onto TikTok, there’s no end to it.😊
