On July 1, Qantas will unveil a new frequent flyer scheme.

Even without the details, consumers are worried about what will become of the points they've spent years accumulating.

On the Frequentflyer website the members are voicing their concerns.

"I believe that the value of the Qantas Frequent Flyer scheme has been diminishing greatly over the last couple of years," said a bulletin board user calling himself Mal.

Mal...you superstar!

My prediction : domestic upgrades will be a lot harder (or impossible) to get on points.

Why? Most chatter has been about award availability rather than upgrade.

Not based on anything specific. I just perceive that QF are refocusing on their premium passengers and can see this could lead to a general attempt to make J more "exclusive". Plus it would probably be the thing that would annoy me the most so it's almost guaranteed to happen :)

I hope I'm wrong!

I would expect the worst case scenario would be that they would move the DOM upgrade policy to be in line with the INT policy.

Mind you thinking on this again there would be a rationale for making the upgrades more expensive. Most flights I have been on DOM the J cabin has been full - implying people are paying or upgrading - if upgrading is that common then it is obviously a disincentive to book J - even though for marginal extra cost for an upgrader QF can reduce their FF point liability...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
