Hilton Sydney unveils new exec lounge - Hotel Management

Hilton Sydney has recently unveiled a completely restyled Executive Lounge as part of an AUD$7million upgrade to the Hilton guest rooms and general areas.
The renovation is part of a three-year, global AUD$3 billion plan of significant property renovations currently underway across the global portfolio of Hilton Hotels and Resorts, the flagship brand of Hilton Worldwide.
The new lounge has been increased by 60 per cent and now seats up to 120 guests with the introduction of communal and private alcoves and redesigned boardroom, allowing the lounge to accommodate its guests in absolute comfort.

That looks dreadful. I don't like it at all.

Fortunately I never stay at the Sydney property.

Fifa stayed there last week.

The refurbished executive lounge had excellent canape choices including fresh prawns and oysters, sushi, delish chicken pies, soup, cheeses etc plus little desserts. The refurb is a little underwhelming - seating and tables are too close together and the bench seats against the windows have very low cushions (maybe you are not meant to stay in there too long). An open room on the right as you enter has a long table and what looked like aluminium chairs and the drinks area is very cluttered with the cold drink fridges directly under the coffee machine making access an issue when there are a few people waiting.

I stayed the same night as fifa, it's not any real improvement on the old lounge. Lots of exposed concrete pillars near the entrance, cheap Ikea style furniture and the bar area has moved to the right hand side of the central walkway so that people queue across the walkway for drinks. Plenty of seafood if that takes your fancy ( I'm a bit picky about cold seafood and won't eat it from a communal buffet)

I fell the same way about the seafood and I couldn't be bothered with all the mess involved with peeling prawns while seated at those little tables and so close to your neighbour.
One of the staff I spoke to said the new lounge reminded her of a uni college rec room.

Ha. it does indeed look like something from a 1990's university :)

My thoughts exactly. I was wondering which university it was styled on? Perhaps the 'cave' at Flinders Uni :?:

Maybe St John's College at UNSW? They seem to have enough connections everywhere to cover up their scum and bigotry...maybe the lead designer graduated from there? And the furnishing of the new EL seems rather befitting of a crowd of that calibre. (N.B. this is saying that the lounge is not fitted to match the quality of the property, not that the hotel patrons who use the EL are scum and bigots).

Certainly a disappointment - what genius came up with the lounge concept? It's so out of place with the rest of the property, and if Hilton Sydney is trying to portray itself as one of the city's finest premium properties, this is doing the direct opposite.

And a seafood buffet does not save the lounge from being branded as a garage; heck, RSLs have seafood buffets......
