I will not be on it until July next year, though I think I will sneak a quick trip in before then ;)

We flew syd-nan - lax return. Only one sector was the new a330 the rest the old 747. I was really looking forward to trying the new plane but must admit to being mildly disappointed. I think there was in seat power but not 100% sure as I didn't use it. I found I missed the massive pitch on the old birds and the new seat while relatively comfortable is only sloped flat and being leather is slippery. The recliners on the old fit out are surprisingly comfortable especially if you can nab an extra doona and use that as a mattress. From memory there isn't much storage space either in the new seats. I don't remember noticing any seats being worse than others, it's 2-2-2 from memory so no middle seats.
Cheers

Thanks Timtammi! What is the lounge access like in LAX if booked on a FJ Ticket? is it the Qantas Lounge over there?

No they use another generic lounge that's shared amongst a whole lot of airlines. It's pretty ordinary and has no showers which was disappointing as I really like a shower before a late flight. The lounge at nan does have showers though so we were able to grab one there. When you take into account the cost differential with Qf J I think FJ is a good option to Lax and I would definitely do it again if the price is right.

Thanks for the report!

I'm sure someone told me the FJ seat was just an old off the shelf seat that VA use and SQ used to use..... Can anyone else corroborate that?

I do agree those old J seats in the nose of the 747 were/are great for a day trip!

Its a webber 7811 first released in 2009 for SQ Regional J redesign and very much still in use by them, personally I find it more comfortable than the Skybed MK11 as there is more lateral room despite the slope. Storage is also brilliant, including a spot for specs.

Agree there is more lateral room than skybed MKII, disagree its more comfortable. Just goes to show there is no "one size fits all!" :)

well I have completed my trip to LA on FJ in J. I'll do a trip report when I return to allow a better sample size but so far I am pretty happy. I booked 2 separate tickets via FJ website (SYD-NAN-SYD & NAN-LAX-NAN). I E-Mailed to update seats and also to link my tickets. Let's be honest, it's not QF, but for at least half the price, potentially more it's a good product. I was able to get my bookings linked so baggage checked right through. The lounge in NAN has Wifi & showers. The seats are good enough to sleep in. All in all I'm happy with my choice.

Thanks @Markis10 for the tip off!!

robert.smith, my thoughts are the same as yours, for the price its a good product.

Cheers
