New Food Labels

But the fight against this by the large food manufacturers means that I am very much looking forward to this. Too often the country of origin is hidden in the minuscule print. The killer I find is the 'Made from Australian and imported ingredients" but no indication of how much of either.
At least I will be able to check easily and make my own choices.

I'm a fan. I like to know where things are from and often make my buying decisions based on this (eg frozen vegetables grown in China, I refuse to buy). This makes it easier to make an informed choice. Those who are have the information, those who don't will continue with their same buying habits. Win win for the consumer IMO :)

Country of Origin is a good thing. We have been checking for this information for a long time.

Its definitely a good idea. It will help me avoid getting hepatitis A from the frozen desert isle! It's impossible to know what ingredients come from what parts of the world when everything is labeled 'made from local and imported ingredients.' Im sure the advertising types will develop some new vague terminology to muddy the waters again.

How?

The form of the percentage bar and logo are mandated by the new regulations.

In any event, this labelling does not apply to all products. These products are the non priority ones and don't require CoOL:

  • seasonings
  • confectionary
  • biscuits and snack food
  • bottled water
  • soft drinks and sports drinks
  • tea and coffee
  • alcoholic beverages.
