Hi AFF members,
Been a long time reader of the amazing content on this platform. Figured it's time to get a bit involved in discussions especially due to the complicated nature of travel these days. I really miss the old carefree days of travelling. My last overseas trip was to the United States in 2019. Flew to LAX, hired a car, drove all around LA, visited a wine region in Cali called Temecula (well, it was for a mate's wedding) and drove up to Portland and Seattle. Loved every minute. LA is so much like Sydney in terms of being a melting pot of so many different cultures although it seems to carry with it an unrelenting and unforgiving grind. The homeless situation really shocked us though - almost every suburb of every city we visited had visible homeless populations.
In the previous year (2018), I went to Russia for the football World Cup - what a different time that was just 4 years ago! Drinking beers openly outside stadiums, mingling with locals telling us how much they loved Aussies, visiting exotic cities like Kazan, visiting an amusement park in Sochi with zero waiting times next door to the stadium where the Socceroos game was happening. Experienced a totally different world which now seems a totally different time that in my lifetime will not be repeated. I should mention that my trip was extra great because my partner is Russian hehe.
Looking forward to discussing how best to use my Qantas FF points accumulated over the last couple of years.
