Hi All,

Signed up the other day and received an email asking me to post in the introductions section so here goes....

I am from Canberra but originally from Melbourne.

I fly a reasonable amount, both for work (Australian Public Service) and leisure. In particular I am a big Canberra Raiders (NRL) fan and go to all the games both home and away. When I fly for work I tend to fly Qantas but for leisure I normally just go for the cheapest fare, especially for short trips. One of the things that really frustrates me is the lack of LCC in Canberra. We had Tiger for a while but when they went to pot last year that was it and they haven't returned (I think one of the few routes they haven't brought back). I would love to have Jetstar here. I find them quite good, like all LCC you just have to follow their rules. Have used Jetstar to NZ a couple of times before and will do so again in a few weeks.

I haven't done a lot of long haul, (if you consider short haul) in fact I have only been out of Australiasia (as opposed to Australia) once, that was to the UK and Singapore on the way back. Flew Singapore Airlines but that was about 15 years ago.

However, hoping to change that big time in the next couple of years. Last week I booked a dirt cheap flight on the new airline Scoot to Singapore and I am planning on using other LCC in Asia to visit KL and Hong Kong at the same time.

The big trip will be in 2014. I have about 190K Qantas frequent flyer points (mainly from Credit Card and other special deals - as a public servant when I fly for work I can't get FF points and obviously if I fly LCC for leisure then no points). I am planning on doing the 140K round the world going to all continents.

Hope you make me feel welcome.

Sometimes I wonder whether travelling away to all the Raiders games makes me a committed supporter or whether I should be committed!!! Mind you our form away this year has been better than at home.

I should have added that of course I take those Jetstar flights from Sydney not Canberra. Would love Jetstar and Tiger to be in Canberra.

With regard to lounges, I don't have any lounge membership as I am only QFF Bronze but normally when I travel with work I go with colleagues who have access. Do love the bircher museli in the QC for breakfast and have been known to knock down a couple of quick bundies of an evening but I have never bothered to join as I don't think I use it enough and when I am travelling by myself I tend to web check or SMS check in and just go straight to the gate so not at the airport early enough to enjoy the lounge.

when I do the big trip in 2014 I was thinking of joining priority plus. Is it worth it (I know there is no access in Australia)

I can't be bothered with priority plus. Some I know have found it useful. But as a one off, not a fan!
If you are a regular QFF have you studied the site to get a handle on status, points earn etc to enhance your experience? It is with the help of AFF's that I went from a NB to WP ( will qualify mid August this year) in a little over 12 months. ( all with QF)
I seriously regret all of the " shopping around " for the cheapest flight over the years, when with a little planning and a little extra spend, I could have been traveling ( leisure) in J instead of whY.
Ask around, you will get good advice here. who knows , your major 2014 trip may be even more memorable.

yeah maybe. I guess there are a couple of things that hamstring me getting any great number of points. Firstly as a public servant I don't get any FF points for work travel. Secondly, I am a tight ar*e who always looks to get cheap flights on discount carriers (mainly use the Jetstar guarantee from Sydney). For instance going to Singapore on Scoot and then I am going to go from there to KL, Macau and HK and got a flight last night on Jetstar Asia for $13.98. Seriously it is a one hour flight and at that price I wouldn't care if I stand!!

When I go away in 2014 I am planning on hiking, backpacking and doing a safari in Africa. I think I would be a bit out of place to fly Business and then stay in a $15 backpackers!!!

But I will have a look around and see what I can do.

Well it's roses for courses. Sounds like you have an amazing trip planned. I wish you well.
