I have been trying to get my head around all the jargon, abbreviations and different settings. I am still some what confused. I am seeking help in regard to flights from Melbourne to Paris around the 6 th of May and fly back on about the 29th August. I have 232,000 Qantas ff points I want to use. I am happy to fly economy over and premium or business home. My husband is flying home Business class with Malaysia air & it would be fabulous to join him. Any suggestions on how I achieve my aims. Thanks.

Hi

Welcome to AFF!

Some abbreviations here scroll down to post # 7

I'm sure others will have good advice re the flight mechanism, but if not, re-post as a separate query under 'Questions' or the 'Qantas Frequent Flyer' thread. I'm thinking Emirates using QF points for the flight over and MH using QF points on the way back. Should be do-able.

Welcome.
On Jargons and Abbreviations suggest looking at the links in this thread:
http://www.australianfrequentflyer....g/selected-aff-threads-new-members-43151.html

Not all Qantas partners (indeed pretty much only Qantas, Jetstar, Emirates and occasionally Cathay) are shown online on the award searcher on the Qantas website.
Your best bet is to call the Frequent Flyer Desk and ask them to search other partners including Malaysian, Qatar etc - paticularly asking if they can match some/all of your husbands flights, however 5-7 months out you will need to be flexible as these flights would have already been available for a few months for others on awards.

Depending on exact routing and combination you should have enough points.
eg. a oneworld award in business class (you need to fly 2 different oneworld airlines) is 240,000 points plus around $1000-1500 in taxes and charges.

Welcome aboard! Lots of information and help here. Hope you get the flights you want.
