Hi all
Just got an email from QF about my flight tomorrow (actually I got it last night). Lots of info about the flight and some instructions.
Is this a new thing? This is the first flight I have booked direct with QF so not sure if it is relate to that.

I booked a flight departing last week for my mum (and gave my email address) and got the same email the day before. First time I've seen it, but my flights are normally booked through work.

Its been happening for around 6 months, and is not always accurate, earlier in Jan I got an email the day before my planned flight to ROK which had been changed three weeks before, since ROK required amphibious aircraft.

Is the email titled "Qantas Departure Information - QF? on ??????"

I get that email prior to flights. I'm on QF9 on Friday 4th Feb and received the email on 28th January.

I book all of my Qantas trips online via the QF website.

Last year I had a similar email titled "Prepare for flight QF481 on 22Jul09 and check in online"

That is the earliest one I can find.

edit

I take that back I have one from 29th May 2009 for another QF9 on the 5th June 2009. It was also titled "Prepare for flight....."

I get those all the time. Not for every flight maybe about 75% of them. Rather annoying waste of electrons sometimes.

I've always just deleted them. I always have my flight details saved into the Worldmate App anyway.

I keep these emails as they contain a .pdf of the actual e-ticket receipt.

Very handy to check back when something may appear to have changed, as well as having that all important e-ticket number.

I have been getting these emails consistently since August 2010. I assumed that it was a WP or J class thing.

The Qantas Departure Information - Prepare for your flight does not have a PDF E Ticket. This is the one that comes 24 hours before the flight.

The Qantas Departure Information - Booking Info email does have the PDF eticket.

I was referring to the latter.

In any case, I avoid deleting any 'official' emails in relation to an event (like travel) until after the event is over and all the dust has settled (points/SC posted).

I have been getting the Qantas departure information email for a few years now.

Not really useful as it is only sent for the first leg in an itinerary so if you have a return flight a week later there is no departure information email sent.

And yes QF customer care is not interested. They recommended I use an online calendar to monitor my flights. So why bother sending a departure information email for the first flight but not the others? QF have no idea and change the subject....

May is the earliest I can find as well. Interestingly, I seem to only get them for the outbound flights.

I don't think it has anything to do with class or status as friend's who aren't even QFF members have received these emails. I think it's just that email addresses are used more often when booking these days.

I have only ever received one such email - that was for a ASA ticket for last November's Steam Train ride - all my other travel is booked via Amex corporate travel (and does have my email address in the booking) but I don't get Qantas Departure emails for those. I suspect it has more to do with the way that you book the flights - via qantas.com or via a TA.

I've been receiving them going back at least since early 2008.

Looking through some of the earlier ones I have archived, it shows just how much baggage allowances have been reduced. Check this one out as a QP PS flying in J.

Nowadays WP members don't even get that.

Thank you for starting this thread simongr. :)

It made me look at my old emails and realise I had the vast majority of my previous years' bookings tucked away in my travel folder in Outlook. I have been able to go back to 2005 and log them in flight memory.

Rather sadly that has made my day. I just wish I had 1994-2004!!!

Interesting that this email doesnt list my baggage allowance...

Looks like they stopped including it in the emails in March 2009. My emails in February have it, the emails in March don't.
