Hi guys, i have quite a few points in my amex cards which i wish to use for Business class flight from Adelaide to Shanghai PVG. At malaysia enrich site, i can't find a calucaltor showing how much points needed for my flight. As a result, i made an account and from dummy booking, they showed 46750 miles needed for each way.

Can someone tell me if the miles shown has included the online booking discount? (15% off). Also what is your experience for the cabin (mainly the hardwares). I have only flew with singapore J class on my honeymoon 3 years ago (ADL-PVG return). So far since I have enough points, i wish to do that again. Thanks in advance for any tips and suggestions.

in addition, can anyone do a dummy booking and tell me how much surcharge (including tax) am i expecting to pay for a return J class through redemption. Thanks

I would imagine the surcharges are the same as a paid ticket:

Surcharges: AUD 617.80
Taxes: AUD 112.01

Sorry cannot help you with MH - but huge pts diff if your 42K figure corret

Dear Diesmile, the redemption points that you see on MH/ Enrich website includes the discount of 15%. Hardware is not very comparable to SQ. Seats on malaysia are lie flat on A330. Comfortable, but not the best. Service is good. Value for money, in this case points required for redemption is excellent.

That is a shame, but how bad or how good are they in turns of J class? can you go into any details plz? thanks so much.

Have a look on google images for the J class seats on MH and SQ. Generally with SQ you get the massive seat which converts to the flat bed, while on MH its a seat that reclines to flat albeit at a gentle incline. However from Adelaide to PVG on SQ you may end up on the A330s which has the regional J, which has seats similar to MH - angled lie flats and hence not much difference in hardware. but at least SIN-PVG will be better but its a shorter flight.

MH J class is pretty good, as kbbedi says they are excellent value on miles vs SQ. Food is pretty good (better than SQ apart from some of SQ's book the cook dishes), service generally excellent (in the air probably second to none, the ground crew are a different story), lounges probably about the same in the home ports but Changi airport is way better than KLIA for duty free. You should also get amenity kits on MH (Tumi bag with some toiletries) but not on SQ.

You cant go wrong really , beats flying economy on any airline anyday.

thanks fatcat, i just found out my amex points are converting at a 4:3 ratio to MH, so a return J in MH will costs me 124666 , while SQ return J is 145000, but with 15% off online, it is only 123250, and it is lower than MH.

which Amex is that? I thought Amex transfer to Enrich 1 to 1.

woo, i just found out that today by ringing amex plat and altitude black team, both are 1:1 (although altitude is 2:1, but i only consider i am earning half).

so MH is back in the game, but sadly they charge even more tax/surcharge than SQ.... one day our tickets will be like 100 while tax is over 1000. ;)
