SO question is (living in Australia) am I better crediting points to Singapore or Thai airlines? I assume I cannot credit them to my Velocity membership?? (In Oneworld it is automatically Qantas).

If you want the possibility of using them on Velocity, then its SQ, as their points can be transferred to VA (at a discount). SQ flights also I think more useful than TG internationally and quite good availability (don't know about TG).

If you want status, then there are other choices, such as Aegean.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Singapore SQ and Virgin Australia VA are ff partners. Can move ff points between them, but not 1 to 1.
Singapore SQ ff points have a hard 3 year expiry. Use them or lose them.

But the question is too open ended. "Better" means different things to different frequent flyers

Also just be aware that SQ points have individual expiry dates of three years (and can be extended for a max of six months)

To expand on the good advice already provided. A couple of questions:

1. “Why”? Is this a work travel policy change? I gather from your post, that you’re still intending to credit to QFF when flying OW. Or a tilt towards Stary Alliance.

2. “What” Is the main goal(s) you want with *A program you chose? Mainly to collect the miles and hope to use them for something useful or also attain some status with them?

Some programs are better than others for efficiently attaining status, while others are good for earning / burning points (not necessarily the same program that’s good for status - alluded to earlier). If you’re expecting to be flying a particular *A airline, that FF program would be my starting point to see if there are extra perks for their status PAX flying on their metal.

There’s a Venn diagram with Virgin and *A partners worth exploring SQ, AC, UA. The later used to be pretty good but has steadily gone down hill since I was a regular A*G with them.

Thankyou. Reason is, have booked with Thai Airways (BKK-MEL) and was trying to choose b/w Kris flyer & Royal Orchid to credit points to. I want to leave my options open to expand/add to Star Alliance should I wish to. From what I gather Singapore Airlines may be the most flexible, given I can transfer them to Virgin if I wish. It is indeed a 'tilt' towards Star alliance.
