Hi All

I am wanting to reedeem my Krisflyer points for a one way ticket to Singapore(then HCMC) from Melbourne on the 21or22or23dec ( quantas want almost a years worth of points where as Sing I can cover with just 4 trips)

There is no avainibility on these dates; I managed to get waitlisted for one flight on the 22nd. All other flights have now had the waitlist closed for redemption seats.

In peoples experience what is the chance of beeing offered a waitlist seat??

Is there anything I can do to maximize my chances of getting a seat -- or any advice in general how to get a good deal using my FF points ( Qantas & Sing) to fly to HCMC???

Last resort is to buy a Jetstar ticket for $900 :(

Thanks in advance

Chris

Chris I have been redeeming SQ flights via KF points for many years - I only redeem J savers if possible (cheapest business class seat redemptions) - I have only everhadt waitlisted seats to confirm on one occasion - it was 2 seats MEL-SIN-DPS - and the reason I got them confirmed was because I was Elite Gold level with KF and I actually phoned KF.

I have never wasted time with waitlists - most of my redemptions have been to PEK / PVG for business trips and I cannot 'hope' that seats will confirm. iMHO much better way is to keep visiting SQ site and keep playing with dates until you get confirmed redemptions so you can plan your trip properly.

Yep, don't take the chance.

You may want to investigate using your Krisflyer points on a Star Alliance reward. Check the points required on this chart:

http://www.singaporeair.com/pdf/ppsclub_krisflyer/charts/StarAlliance_RoundTrip.pdf

From memory, you may need 90k points in business class, of 60k points for economy.

Then, join the ANA Mileage club (whichhas a nifty tool that allows you to search for and see availability for awards on Star Alliance airlines):

ANA SKY WEB

- once you join, let us know on this thread and I can give you specific instructions on how to search for award flights.

THEN you call Krisflyer and book it over the phone. EASY :)

Note: I have been searching for availability over the Christmas period for SYD-HKG and there is heaps of availability via Bangkok on Thai. This should be a better option for you.
