I want to get a fare for my mum to come over from o/s using my points. The date isn't fixed because it depends when the baby comes, so I want to leave it as late as 1mth before the due date before booking. I already have another helper coming from due-2wk to due+1wk, so we are just thinking mum would either come early if baby is early, or else come at due+1wk. So we won't decide until about due-3wk.

Should I be using my points for ASA with 100% points so I don't need to show my CC, or should she buy $$ a fully flexible economy ticket instead? I'm not really sure how flexible ASA are, but if it's ASA then I should be able to get the last seat avail even at the last minute right :?:

Hoping to use points as short notice QFF booking is nigh on impossible at reasonable points or cost, better to buy her a discount economy.

Due to the short notice I'm guessing it won't be discount economy by that time, probably a full econ?
I didn't realise points required changes with dates?

Where is she coming from? Sometimes there are discount eco fares available up to very close to departure time.

Provided you don't want your mum to be somewhere within a certain number of hours notice, I'd hold off and then look for the next available flight with a cheap seat free once you know when you want you mum to travel. Provided you don't insist on certain flights or certain routing \ a certain carrier or a specific day (check a couple of days either side of the nominated date, that can save big $$$) you should still be able to find cheap tickets.

Even if I look at fares departing HKG tonight they come in at AUD1243, this is not cheap but it could be worse
