Ok, i've never had status with hotels apart from a freebie plat with Accor which i have never used, but i have had a few other status matches in the last week or so and am about to take off for a trip in a couple of days, so just looking for any advice... I could read up on all hotel chain info here and on several sites which would take days and weeks, but don't really have the time and only just got some of this status which got the brain turning over... So anyway point of the exercise is, if anyone has some thoughts they would like to volunteer i would appreciate it and i'll help newbies out in the future (or this thread will)

Now i am usually a hostel stayer or stay with people rather than ritzy hotel stayer, so expensive hotels aren't my thing... But travelling with a friend for part of this trip and don't think they are into hostels, and so with some of this new status, if i could get some cheapish hotels (around $100/night) with maybe an upgrade or a free breaky or something thrown in and complete any challenges for bonus points could be intersting... Never had this sort of thing, but not sure if $100/night hotels really have executive lounges and nice suites, maybe i am dreaming (no law against it :) ) and then how do you tell from the website if your status will get you squat anyway without lots of back and forward emails...

Ok, recent status gained
Accor Le Club Plat
Best Western Diamond whatever
Club Carlson Gold
Hilton silver (from a stay earlier in the year)

I have put in an IHG status match to my Best Western, but they want me to send a 'recent Best Western Rewards Club statement'... Well i have just joined BW obviously and when i go on the website, not sure the status on it reflrects that i am Diamond or whatever so might not get IHG status this trip, which is a pity as on Loyaltylobby i think they were showing some challenges that for 4 nights stay in different IHG brands could net 50k free points?? Not sure if i could get my hilton silver upgraded to the next level??

Anyway, the rough plan looks like several days in Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels, then a few days in Seattle and San Fran... So those are probably the opportunities to stay at these chains, enjoy any upgraded facilities and do any challenges...

Goals: not really probably looking to be spending a lot of time staying in hotels in Australia (redeeming anyway) so a chain's facilities here in Oz not a primary importance... Am going up to Singapore for 5 days with my son in January, and haven't booked a hotel, so if any points earned here could contribute to a free night or two on that trip would be handy??? Or if anyone has any good suggetions for Singapore?? I don't know what the deal is with buying points in any of these programs and how often they occur or how good a deal it is (compared to like buying miles in USDM or lifemiles)?? I'm not sure which chains have the best best rate guarantee scheme to try and take advantage..

As you can tell from these, i'm new to it all, so any advice would be appreciated... :)

I'd suggest you look into the freebie platinum with ACCOR's le club. (use a new email address)

They have increased the benefits recently and at the very least that gives complimentary wifi.

Club Carlson is fine for your upgrades.
and accor plat is ok in some hotels. Just check the benefits as serfty says.
you can get gold hilton by paying for it via one of the other US forums . In my opinion that's the best one. Upgrades and free brekky.
