Re Singapore airlines and Krisflyer.
We had a ton of Amex credit card points (celebrating a big Brithday this year) and miraculously with the help of a wonderful Krisflyer customer service person, secured 2 first class fares - Syd/Sing/Amsterdam and return Zurich/ Sing/ Syd for Sept /Oct this year. Unbelievable and /or exceptional good luck?? - having never booked SAS points before (only Qantas)
All good until yesterday when an email informed us, due to the commencement of the new Airbus 350 900 operating from Sing - AMS there are only 2 cabin classes : Business and Economy - First class no longer available - ok, accepted. On contacting customer services requesting a refund for pts and fees on a "down graded flight" for the 2nd leg -was told 'no refund on mixed class flights' despite it not being our fault. We need to down grade the whole booking(ie syd- Sing segment too) Ok, all acceptable - can cope with J class and they will refund all points and costs and rebook Business Saver Syd- Sing. Unforfunately - no Bus Saver fares and we have to pay Bus standard - almost same as 1st class!
Not Happy! Asked the 'newbie ' customer service guy to ask management to see what they can do. Wait and see!
Was it too good to be true! 60,000pts at stake!

Welcome aboard!

While it is correct that the AMS flights will be operated by an A359 without F. I would try and push for a re-route via another city with F. There has been a conversation about this in one of the SQ threads so do go have a read through to see what others have done in your situation.

Edit: Found the conversation. Starts about here

Thanks for the info - will check the threads. Hubby isn't a keen traveller so quickest way is best. Have booked ongoing flights and accom. already so may limit our choices.

That it is, and the social aspect is even better IMHO. I strongly recommend you get along to an event if you can

Welcome aboard leejaak. Sept/October is not a bad time of year in NL. Weather can be 54itty but can also be quite reasonable. Fewer tourists too. You're going to love SQ.

Thanks for the welcome Pozac. Hopefully, it will be a good trip all up, only passing through AML though - a couple of nights in Basel, a Uniworld River cruise, and a couple of days in Zurich. Still no progress re updates on our flights. Did fly SQ to SIN this last Sept/Oct (paid PE) Flight over had dismal service - couple in front had issues with their screen and the staff went backwards to compensate them, gift vouchers, and generally J class treatment- at the expense of others. Coffee was almost too much trouble! Ready to give some 'frank' feedback. Flight back on the other hand, was exemplary- staff were lovely and courteous and did the airline proud. Off to Japan next week for Cherry Blossom time - SQ but not the pointy end!
