Hey there AnzacPaul,

I am not a wine connosieur, but I do drink the stuff. Before I last moved I spent a couple of years going to the same Dan Murphys, and being poor, I was always looking at their bargain bins (they had an array of half-barrels where they would offer this stuff). What I learnt was that there seems to be (within Dans at least) a group of products that are essentially only ever sold via these bins. Invariably cheap bottles (light and without any decent punt) that were never intended to be sold in any way other than as a clearance item. But every so often, a small number of bottles from a different brand would appear.  More quality bottles, at least in their bottle packaging. These are the true specials. These are products that they only have a few of left, and do not want to occupy their costly shelf-space with. These can be the bargains.

Others may have different experiences, but this makes sense  to me.
