No F18 at the Grand Prix this year?

So I live right next to Albert Park and I hate hate hate the Grand Prix. Six weeks out, and most of the park is already fenced with ugly fencing and eyesore stands, all the off-leash bits that are still accessible are too dangerous for dogs to run around in now because of the maintenance vehicles going everywhere and the weekend itself is like a mega-bogan magnet.

The one thing that made me forgive the GP all these evils has always been the aerial stuff, and in particular the F18, which also practices for a few days beforehand. I absolutely love watching and especially listening to it pass over my apartment block.

Now I've read that not only are the roulettes not playing, but the F18 isn't coming either??

Even the Qantas low pass has been cough in the last few years. Only the first year was it actually a low pass; since then it has been a sort-of-moderately-low-pass-but-not-really.

Go away Grand Prix. The sooner the better.

Love Eiley

Having looked at the online program, it looks like you may be right - only helicopters which is far less fun... On a side note, I wonder if the Malaysian F1 will have their Air Force display again? Last year I was expecting to see a ball of smoke in the distance - I didn't have a lot of faith in bravado vs skill

There still remains a "low flyover" by Qantas. I think it would be interesting to be on that flight. Presumably its a regular commercial flight on takeoff from Tullamarine? I guess you can't necessarily predict which flight it will be.

Have they fixed the large construction area in the middle of pit lane yet? I was a bit worried at the big hole when there in January!
Finally, Lawless, not all F1 fans are bogans, I promise. (True F1 fans blame the V8 fans for dragging down the class level ) And if you are in the area I'd be happy to buy you a drink to prove it!

Well, now that I am a starving student, I can hardly afford to give up any offers of a drink...

Oh Eiley, you love the Grand Prix, go on admit it!!

I was seconded to Adelaide when we stole the friggin thing. People were sticking up "Go Kick a Vic" bumper stickers everywhere. Cars with Victorian numberplates were getting keyed.

HEY ADELAIDE, YOU CAN HAVE YOUR STUPID RACE BACK!!!

Specially now we don't get our aerial entertainment any more.

You could just go to Avalon this week instead if you want real aerial entertainment.

I will be suitably entertained at Mardi Gras this weekend

Have taken part in Avalon in the past. Always fun.

awww... you'd miss it so much if it was gone!

I think since the A320 accident in France, very few (no?) "fly-bys" are done with pax aboard. I'd be staggered if QF allowed pax aboard. Perhaps jb747 or RedRoo can comment?

I am not sure they would want the money pit it has become, compared to its replacement (the Clipsal 500) . while one could and often will argue the GP has international exposure, how much of that translates into $$$ for the local economy is questionable. I have never experienced a F1 GP (although enjoy watching them on TV) but have done a lot of the V8s and love it, with the Clipsal being an annual highlight that I do try to get to as much as possible.
