Iv booked with my agent a flight by Virgin and Malaysian from Hobart to LHR via KL at a cheap price and I have been told that I am unable to claim points for this travel. This doesnt sound right that Im unable to add to my new Velocity card. Any ideas if I can get round this. Im a newbie on this list by the way, be kind lol.

Welcome to AFF, Nettie.

You need to find out the booking code for your fare. You then need to match that code with that in the earning table on this page: Velocity - Malaysia Airlines

You can probably find out what this code is by calling either Malaysia Airlines, Velocity or your travel agent (and if they don't know how to find it, they should be able to refer you to who should!). But basically once you get your code, if it isn't one of B, H, K, M, Q, W or Y, then you won't earn any points through Velocity for the trip. (I'm assuming you're flying Economy).

I know sometimes Malaysia (MH) have some great deals on (in Economy), but they book into class code L or something. These do not earn points or status on the Velocity program, and IIRC I believe that they do not even earn points or status on Malaysia's Enrich FFP.

MH's website contradicts their T&C's in regards to what booking class earns what (MH Enrich).

When the booking website alerts me that I will not earn Enrich points on S,L,V booking fares, the T&C's still states .3points/mile, and it is still credited as such.

However, certain MH fares do not earn Velocity points, but you should still be able to add your Velocity number to the booking (i.e if you have any status you get the benefits of it if there is any)

I will find out the information and follow it up, I greatly appreciate your help. Great

I've done the Malaysian thing a couple of times and you need to realise that MH has probably the most pathetic FF program on the planet. This extends into other programs when you want credit for booked flights. The cheapest few fare classes on Malaysian don't earn points with any program at all.

If you wanted points, you could either cough up for a $4K ECONOMY return ticket to LHR on MH, or fly with another airline that has better FF terms with partner airlines.

MH is good for for cheap fares and selling cracked 747s, that's about all.

'V' is tricky as there is a difference between international (30%) and domestic(0%) sectors on how it will credit, and the booking engine is not very good at telling the difference.

I was referring to international fares, however I do agree with stating that the MH website is not very helpful when it comes to answering questions where as if you do email MH, I have found them to be swift when it comes to responding.
