So we are flying SQ as velocity platinum but SQ don't have a lounge here. Their website says we can use SAA lounge but they refused entry. Tried VS Clubhouse but that was closed!

Annoying!!!

With the flights now being VIrgin Australia code shares now, is there really no lounge option for top tier velocity passengers?

Yeah, there's a heap of SQ destinations which have no lounge that Velocity folks can use, unfortunately. One of the more annoying things about the alliance.

So even if we booked through Virgin Australia site, there'd be no partner lounge in JNB?

Could understand that on an SQ booking but on a VA flight number that's poor

Not to any contract-operated lounges, either - has to be a full blown self-operated SilverKris lounge or nothing.

Having said that, the check in desk guy in Bangalore gave me an invite to their (dreadful) contract operated lounge last time I was there, but I think he thought I was *A Gold, and didn't realise that Velocity was something different - not uncommon with SQ ground staff I find...

Why, when your on a code share you often don't get access no matter who you fly with, a QF member flying on the Air France code share ex Paris does not get lounge access either, unless you have status on the operating airline it's something of a norm.
