I was told yesterday that after QF receives its 8th A380 then subsequent deliveries will not have F seats - just J, Y and Y+.

Is this news to people?

I had been wondering if they were all going to be configured the same. If they were planning to use the A380 to replace some of their 2 class 747's, then it seems quite reasonable that they would do this.

Do you know the mix? Without F, will there still be fewer J? I think it's safe to assume there'll be more Y+ and Y...

maybe if they have more Y and Y+ the loads will increase and pricing might come down a bit.

When you think fo all that expensive realestate not being rented each flight, it has to hurt :D

Then again politicians might tell the truth, and pigs migh loop the loop

As they are removing the number of F routes it makes sense to remove F from new aircraft. (I'm sure they love flying J pax in F seats at no additional cost to the pax ).

It’s probably not that big of a loss, considering J has been paid for anyway. But yeah, I’d imagine that could be annoying over time.

I’d have thought more economy would be the way to go, at least a slightly bigger Y+ cabin.

I think that this is a shame. I was thinking that A380s would all have F and fly the current F routes (LHR, LAX, JFK, JNB) and then a different aircraft without F would fly the other international routes (maybe 787-10).

This is a shame, although at least they will be 3-class J/Y+/Y rather than 2-class J/Y.

I'd rather see F remain but J be cut down and Y+ extended (or at least given two little cabins, to retain that "exclusivity"). Of course, this is just me - I'm not a yield management expert - but I do remember hearing that QF did overdo the A380 J cabin a bit.

Where there is F though it seems to be going quite healthy, but I'm guessing there aren't too many revenue F pax and more upgrades from cash J.

What they're really doing is getting the later deliveries in 4 classes ... front downstairs J, upstairs Y+ and Y and the back half of downstairs in a Y config without AVOD, and 30" pitch, to operated & sold by Jetstar .....;)

I was told that F will be replaced by J.

Interesting, I always thought QF said there are too many J on this aircraft. They must have good faith that J will recover and F customers will go to J and not elsewhere.

Leaves nothing for those of us who can only aspire to flying F by upgrading from J.

Now Now. You're giving them way too many ideas as to what they could do !

The other question is will 8 aircrafts be enough to operate the existing F routes (and possibly more).

SYD-LAX
MEL-LAX
SYD-SIN-LHR

To me, this just means any new A380 routes won't have F or not all the time.

Even looking at the existing routes, it seems QF are happy to not have even 1 route/flight that is 100% A380...

I was actually thinking a QF/JQ codeshare - 1 level to be QF, the other level JQ. It's kind of like the old school oceanliners - the lower classes don't even get to see the sun for the entire journey. Imagine JQ charging extra for a window... :)
