I'm trying to get Seat Son home in June/July for an important family occasion so just tried to book economy flights for him DXB-SYD and return. Started with paid flights to get an idea of cost, and got this very weird message: "you can only book these flights with Qantas points" - really???? there is no way to pay for a seat? I don't think that's right.

So then I tried for award seats using points and got told no availability.

I Know the answer is to call Qantas to see what's what - but as I literally just spent 1 hr 40 mins on the phone to them for something else today, got SA and a polite helpful agent who could not even understand my question, I just can't face it.

I got exactly the same results for DXB-MEL.

Any suggestions? I'm using Firefox, no VPN.

Even from other Middle Eastern cities it seems QF only filed some full fare Y, J and F which may not even be bookable (and who would pay for these fare buckets anyway).

Thanks @defurax and @Dmac59 for your advice.

I suspect that must be the thing - but it's weird because I know that you can fly QF codeshare on EK metal from DXB-SYD. I literally took that flight earlier this week. But maybe it was only available because my whole trip originated in Australia? Seems odd though.

ARghhh I don't understand why Seat Son persists in living there. It's really quite hard to get to and fro.

Yes, that would be the reason. You can book the QF codeshare only if your ticket originates in certain countries (such as Australia or New Zealand).
