On QF784 (2350 hrs PER - MEL) in J this week on an A332, I was quite surprised when I asked to be told: “pillows and blankets are not available due to COVID.”

I saw the crew offer to help multiple customers get their bags from the overhead lockers to use as a pillow.

This was especially confusing since 2 days prior on QF9 there was a pillow, blanket and mattress topper waiting on every J seat.

Needless to say the whole experience wasn’t overly “premium”, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect these amenities from a redeye service aimed at business travellers?

I have previously succeeded in avoiding the redeye at all costs. Is this offering consistent with pre-COVID or is this a sad new normal?

If I remember correctly previously blankets and pillows were provide, I don’t think to the international standard though. Similar to that on the 737 services. I’ve done QF843 a few times now and every time I ask and get the same answer.

Pillows and blankets were provided on A330 trans-continental flights pre-COVID IIRC.

The COVID excuse is no longer really valid, unless the pillows and blankets are not washed after each flight (I sure hope that's not the case!). It's cost cutting by Qantas, plain and simple, and hard to justify when you consider what they charge for a PER-MEL flight in J.

If I was flying on a QF redeye in the near future, I guess I'd be bringing my own pillow.

Certainly appreciate when one can secure the A330 J product on PER redeye’s however with the seats being leather, it does make it uncomfortable & less premium without a pillow & blanket provided so QF should really be supplying these again as the covid excuse is drying thin.
